The Electron Loss and Fields Investigation with a Spatio-Temporal Ambiguity-Resolving option (ELFIN-STAR, or heretoforth simply: ELFIN) mission comprises two identical 3-Unit (3U) CubeSats on a polar (∼93 inclination), nearly circular, low-Earth (∼450 km altitude) orbit. Launched on September 15, 2018, ELFIN is expected to have a >2.5 year lifetime.

A retrospective study of 239 patients who were hospitalized for diverticular disease is reported. Two thirds of patients had simple diverticulosis, and the remainder had gastrointestinal bleeding, evidence of microabscess, or more serious complications. The prevalence of bleeding on the left side in this series differs from the prevalence of right-sided bleeding noted in the literature, and this difference is unexplained.

This study examined factors contributing to variability in the cost-effectiveness of managing hypertension using the Weinstein and Stason methodology. Empirical analysis was based on resource use and blood pressure data from 160 persons ages 25-64 in an urban community family practice center in 1976. The exploratory study presented results on blood pressure reduction, annual treatment costs, the importance of different cost factors, variability in management costs and potentials for increasing cost-effectiveness.

A team approach in the comprehensive management of children on a general paediatric ward is described. The team comprises paediatricians, nurses, a child psychiatrist, and a social worker, with a psychologist, play-leader, and teachers making important contributions. In this way members of the team learn from each other, and the paediatrician in training gains valuable experience about the management of children with emotional problems.
