Article Synopsis
  • TMEM16A is identified as a key protein that forms calcium-activated chloride channels (CaCCs) in the neurons of the moth Helicoverpa armigera, with RT-PCR confirming its expression.
  • * Using patch clamp technology, researchers recorded the CaCCs' current for the first time in isolated neurons from this species.
  • * The study evaluated the effectiveness of several inhibitors on CaCCs, finding that CaCCinh-A01 was the most potent, and it was also discovered that different types of pyrethroids (tefluthrin and deltamethrin) had varying impacts on the functioning of these channels.

Purpose: To investigate the diagnostic performance of preoperative MR elastography (MRE) in predicting early recurrence (ER) and late recurrence (LR) of HCC after hepatectomy.

Method: In total, 180 patients (median age, 52 years; interquartile range, 41-50 years; 161 men) who underwent conventional MRI and MRE before hepatectomy between December 2014 and April 2020 were retrospectively recruited. Background: Preoperative evaluation of aggressiveness, including tumor histological subtype, grade of differentiation, Federation International of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) stage, and depth of myometrial invasion, is significant for treatment planning and prognosis in endometrial carcinoma (EC). The purpose of this study was to evaluate whether three-dimensional (3D) magnetic resonance elastography (MRE) can help predict the aggressiveness of EC.

Methods: From August 2015 to January 2019, 82 consecutive patients with suspected uterine tumors underwent pelvic MRI and MRE scans, and 15 patients with confirmed EC after surgical resection were enrolled.

Objectives: To determine the value of lesion hypointensity in the hepatobiliary phase (HBP) on gadobenate dimeglumine-enhanced MRI as an additional major imaging feature for diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) using LI-RADS v2018 criteria.

Methods: Between March 2016 and August 2018, 235 patients with 250 hepatic nodules at high risk of HCC underwent gadobenate dimeglumine-enhanced MRI. Two radiologists independently evaluated the imaging features and classified the nodules based on LI-RADS v2018 criteria, and their consensus data were used to calculate the diagnostic performance of LI-RADS categories.

Chronic pain and fatigue are two cardinal features of ankylosing spondylitis (AS) and how to effectively treat these conditions continues to be a challenge. The underlying mechanisms and the relationship between AS-related pain and fatigue remain poorly understood. The present study was conducted, therefore, to explore the brain functional and structural changes associated with pain and fatigue in AS.

Article Synopsis
  • A study was conducted to assess the safety and effectiveness of using ultrasonography (US) combined with MRI for guidance during percutaneous transforaminal endoscopic discectomy (PTED) compared to traditional fluoroscopy, which exposes patients to higher radiation.
  • 20 patients with lumbar disc herniation were randomly assigned to either the US-MR navigation group or the fluoroscopy group, with comparisons made on several factors including radiation dose and pain measurement.
  • Results showed that patients in the US-MR group experienced significantly lower radiation exposure and pain scores during the procedure, while both groups had similar postoperative recovery outcomes, indicating US-MR navigation as a viable alternative to fluoroscopy for PTED.

We investigated in Liver Imaging Reporting and Data System category 5 (LR-5) observations whether imaging features, including LI-RADS imaging features, could predict microvascular invasion (MVI) and posthepatectomy recurrence in high-risk adult patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). We retrospectively identified 149 high-risk patients who underwent 3-T MRI within 1 month before hepatectomy for HCC; 81 of 149 patients with no HCC recurrence were followed for more than 1 year. Tumors with clear surgical margins were confirmed in each hepatectomy specimen.

A new meroterpenoid, named acetoxydehydroaustin A (1) and the known meroterpenoid austin (2) were isolated from the plant pathogenic fungus Verticillium albo-atrum. Their structures were established based on general spectroscopic techniques and the relative configuration of compound 1 was determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. We first investigated and identified their significant electrophysiological effects on the gating kinetics of voltage-gated sodium channels in central neurons acutely dissociated from Helicoverpa armigera using whole-cell patch clamp technique.
