Symmetric Na-ion cells using the NASICON-structured electrodes could simplify the manufacturing process, reduce the cost, facilitate the recycling post-process, and thus attractive in the field of large-scale stationary energy storage. However, the long-term cycling performance of such batteries is usually poor. This investigation reveals the unavoidable side reactions between the NASICON-type NaV(PO) (NVP) anode and the commercial liquid electrolyte, leading to serious capacity fading in the symmetric NVP//NVP cells.

To fabricate an industrial and highly efficient super-hydrophobic brass surface, annealed H59 brass samples have here been textured by using a 1064 nm wavelength nanosecond fiber laser. The effects of different laser parameters (such as laser fluence, scanning speed, and repetition frequency), on the translation to super-hydrophobic surfaces, have been of special interest to study. As a result of these studies, hydrophobic properties, with larger water contact angles (WCA), were observed to appear faster than for samples that had not been heat-treated (after an evolution time of 4 days).

The thin-film LiCoNiMnO cathode exhibits higher lithium-ion diffusivities with increasing temperature, which explains the higher capacity observed in the lithium-ion batteries with a Li-rich cathode at elevated temperature. In addition, the activation energy for lithium-ion diffusion can be extracted in an Arrhenius-type plot at the level of grain structure with the assumption that the ionic movement is diffusion controlled.

Herein, the two-step preparation of a highly active oxygen electrocatalyst based on ultrasmall cobalt nanoparticles stabilized in a nitrogen-doped graphene matrix is reported. The catalyst performs as well as the commercial Pt/C catalyst in the oxygen reduction reaction, and better than the Pt/C catalyst in the oxygen evolution reaction.

The local variations of the diffusion coefficient are calculated and visualized from the ESM images. The results indicate that the Li-ion movement is closely correlated with the changes in the surface topography when the Li-rich cathode is subjected to an external bias.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFLi-rich layer-structured cathode thin films are prepared by pulsed laser deposition. X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscope (FESEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and electrochemical testing in half battery cells are used to characterize crystal structure, surface morphology, chemical valence states and electrochemical performance of these thin films, respectively. It is observed that partial layer to spinel transformation takes place during post annealing, and the layered structure further gradually transforms to spinel during electrochemical cycling based on the analysis of dQ/dV.
