Bismuth-based ternary compounds have attracted much attention owing to their various merits, such as low toxicity and tunable electrical and optical properties. However, these compounds are yet to be understood due to the lack of suitable targets limited by immature synthesis techniques. In this work, we aimed at the synthesis, properties investigation, and photodetection application of BiSI.

Semitransparent and homogeneous bismuth oxychloride (BiOCl) thin films with (001) preferred orientation were synthesized on polycrystalline Sn:InO-glass substrates by mist chemical vapor deposition. The films showed photocathodic activity even under near-ultraviolet light within the band gap due to the in-gap states induced by oxygen vacancies. Higher synthesis temperatures resulted in a significant increase of photocurrent density under ultraviolet light.

Bismuth oxyiodide (BiOI) has attracted much attention as a kind of novel functional material because of its highly anisotropic crystal structure and promising optical properties. However, the low photoenergy conversion efficiency of BiOI highly limits its practical applications owing to its poor charge transport. Tailoring the crystallographic orientation has emerged as an effective way to modulate the charge transport efficiency, while there is nearly no report on BiOI.

Ni-CNTs/AZ91 magnesium matrix composites were fabricated by ultrasound treatment combined with a semi-solid stirred method for the first time. The agglomerated spherical Ni-CNTs transferred from spherical shape to clear tubular shape after pre-dispersion treatment. For the Ni-CNTs/AZ91 magnesium matrix composite prepared by semi-solid stirring followed by ultrasonic treatment, Ni-CNTs were evenly distributed in the magnesium matrix or wrapped on the β (MgAl) phase.

The Ca(1-x)F(2+x):Nd(x) nanoparticles were synthesized by chemical direct precipitation method. X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Image analyzer, absorption spectrum and transmittance were taken to characterization the phases, morphologies, sizes, size distribution and optical properties of the samples. The results indicate that the Ca(1-x)F(2+x):Nd(x) samples can be rationally modified in size and morphology by altering the Nd3+ ions doping concentration.
