Background: This study aimed to identify the risk factors for in-hospital acute kidney injury (AKI) in patients with acute aortic dissection (AAD) and to establish a machine learning model for predicting in-hospital AKI.

Methods: We extracted data on patients with AAD from the Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care (MIMIC)-IV database and developed seven machine learning models: support vector machine (SVM), gradient boosting machine (GBM), neural network (NNET), eXtreme gradient boosting (XGBoost), K-nearest neighbors (KNN), light gradient boosting machine (LightGBM), and categorical boosting (CatBoost). Model performance was assessed using the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC), and the optimal model was interpreted using Shapley Additive explanations (SHAP) visualization analysis.

Angiogenesis may play an important role in the pathophysiology of Alzheimer's disease (AD). Previous in vitro and in vivo studies suggest a link between angiogenesis and cerebral blood flow (CBF) in AD; however, this has never been studied clinically. In this sample of study participants with early AD ( = 15), serum vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), an angiogenesis biomarker, was negatively associated with regional CBF (rCBF) in the angular gyrus even after bootstrapping at a repetition of 5,000 and controlling for age, sex, and diagnosis (β = -0.

Upon injury, both mammalian and plant cells activate a survival mechanism by sensing endogenous damage-associated molecular patterns (DAMPs). Plant elicitor peptides (Peps), a representative DAMP, are released from their precursors (PROPEPs; Precursors of Peps) through cleavage by metacaspases (MCs), but the control of Pep generation remains unclear. Here, we discovered that several PROPEPs in Arabidopsis thaliana are substrates for SUMOylation and that Ca upregulates PROPEP1 SUMOylation, facilitated by the SUMO E3 ligase SAP and MIZ1 domain-containing ligase1 (SIZ1).
