The majority of the carbon footprint of the cement industry originates from the decomposition of alkaline carbonates during clinker production. Recent studies have demonstrated that calcium oxides and other alkaline oxides in cement materials can sequester CO through the carbonation process and partially offset the carbon emissions generated during cement production. This study employs a comprehensive analytical model to estimate the CO uptake via hydrated cement carbonation, including concrete, mortar, construction waste, and cement kiln dust (CKD), covering major cement production and consumption regions worldwide from 1930 to 2023.

At a time when educational attainment in young adulthood forecasts long-term trajectories of economic mobility, better health, and stable partnership, there is more pressure on mothers to provide labor and support to advance their children's interests in the K-12 system. As a result, poor health among mothers when children are growing up may interfere with how far they progress educationally. Applying life course theory to the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent to Adult Health to investigate this possibility, we found that young adults were less likely to graduate from college when raised by mothers in poor health, especially when those mothers had a college degree themselves.

Urban agriculture presents the opportunity for increased availability of local, fresh foods; however, exposure to lead soil contamination can occur through gardening in urban environments. Through a community-engaged partnership, we implemented Soil Screening, Health, Outreach and Partnerships (soilSHOPs), in-person and virtually, to screen soils for lead in Atlanta, Georgia. These soilSHOPs inform best practices for increasing awareness about lead exposure and grounding interventions in residents' lived experiences and also led the US Environmental Protection Agency to identify a Superfund site.

The amine (NH)-functionalized UiO-66 was successfully anchored on disorderly layered clinoptilolite (CP) via surfactant (poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) and poly(vinylpyrrolidone) (PVP))-assisted induction. The structural features and physicochemical parameters of the resultant UiO-66-on-CPs were characterized by powder X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns, scanning/transmission electron microscopy (SEM/TEM) images, Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectra, N sorption isotherms, and small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) patterns. The results demonstrated that the growth of UiO-66-NH nanoparticles facilitated the disorder degree of the crystal plane of CP along the a-axis, while the addition of PEG in the hydrothermal synthesis system of CP was conducive to the formation of a flower-like microstructure and the introduction of PVP was beneficial to the nucleation and growth of UiO-66-NH nanoparticles with a small size (40 nm) on the surfaces of the obtained CP-PEG lamellas.
