NASICON-type solid electrolytes with excellent stability in moisture are promising in all-solid-state batteries and redox flow batteries. However, NASIOCN LiZr(PO) (LZP), which is more stable with lithium metal than the commercial LiAlTi(PO), exhibits a low Li-ion conductivity of 10 S cm because the fast conducting rhombohedral phase only exists above 50 °C. In this paper, the high-ionic conductive rhombohedral phase is stabilized by Y doping at room temperature, and the hot-pressing technique is employed to further improve the density of the pellet.

The domesticated marine microalga Diacronema lutheri is of great interest for producing various highly valuable molecules like lipids, particularly long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (LC-PUFA). In this study, we investigated the impact of phosphorus (P) and nitrogen (N) starvation on growth, carbon fixation (photosynthetic activity) and partitioning, and membrane lipid remodeling in this alga during batch culture. Our results show that the photosynthetic machinery was similarly affected by P and N stress.

From our research group, it was noticed that oseltamivir derivatives targeting 150-cavity of neuraminidase enzyme (NA) could significantly increase antiviral activity. Thus, we further enriched the C5-NH position of oseltamivir structure to obtain more potent oseltamivir derivatives. In this article a series of oseltamivir derivatives were synthesized by modifying C5-NH position of oseltamivir.

Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) has been reproducibly identified as a risk factor for initiation and progression of atrial fibrillation (AF) and reduces the efficacy of antiarrhythmic drugs, electrical cardioversion, and catheter ablation in AF. It is still controversial whether continuous positive airway pressure ventilation (CPAP) could improve the successful rate of AF treatment in OSA patients. Besides, CPAP has shown relative low compliance in patients with OSA.

Lieb lattice has been predicted to host various exotic electronic properties due to its unusual Dirac-flat band structure. However, the realization of a Lieb lattice in a real material is still unachievable. Based on tight-binding modeling, we find that the lattice distortion can significantly determine the electronic and topological properties of a Lieb lattice.

Article Synopsis
  • Researchers developed new 1,2,3-triazole oseltamivir derivatives that can target both the classical NA catalytic site and a newly discovered 430-cavity.
  • Four of these compounds, particularly 6l, showed strong anti-influenza effects against several H5 strains in lab tests.
  • The study also included analysis of the compounds’ structures and properties to understand their effectiveness in fighting influenza.

The plasmon opens up the possibility to efficiently couple light and matter at subwavelength scales. In general, the plasmon frequency, intensity, and damping are dependent on the carrier density. These dependencies, however, are disadvantageous for stable functionalities of plasmons and render fundamentally a weak intensity at low frequency, especially for the Dirac plasmon (DP) widely studied in graphene.

Pediatric-onset colitis and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) have significant effects on the growth of infants and children, but the etiopathogenesis underlying disease subtypes remains incompletely understood. Here, we report single-cell clustering, immune phenotyping, and risk gene analysis for children with undifferentiated colitis, Crohn's disease, and ulcerative colitis. We demonstrate disease-specific characteristics, as well as common pathogenesis marked by impaired cyclic AMP (cAMP)-response signaling.

The shortage of food based feedstocks is a challenge in industrial biomanufacturing. In this study, genetically modified Escherichia coli strains were used to produce isopropanol as the mainly product from acetate, a cost-effective nonfood-based substrate. The isopropanol biosynthesis pathway was constructed by combining genes from Clostridium acetobutylicum (thlA, adc), E.

The importance of neuronal ensembles, termed engram cells, in storing and retrieving memory is increasingly being appreciated, but less is known about how these engram cells operate within neural circuits. Here we tagged engram cells in the ventral CA1 region of the hippocampus (vCA1) and the core of the nucleus accumbens (AcbC) during cocaine conditioned place preference (CPP) training and show that the vCA1 engram projects preferentially to the AcbC and that the engram circuit from the vCA1 to the AcbC mediates memory recall. Direct activation of the AcbC engram while suppressing the vCA1 engram is sufficient for cocaine CPP.

Background We previously found that the structural defects of the coronary collateral microcirculation reserve (CCMR) prevent these preformed collateral vessels from continuously delivering the native collateral blood and supporting the ischemic myocardium in rats. Here, we tested whether these native collaterals can be remodeled by artificially increasing pigment epithelium-derived factor (PEDF) expression and demonstrated the mechanism for this stimulation. Methods and Results We performed intramyocardial gene delivery (PEDF-lentivirus, 2×10 TU) along the left anterior descending coronary artery to artificially increase the expression of PEDF in the tissue of the region for 2 weeks.

Reticuloendotheliosis virus (REV) is an important representative avian retrovirus. To improve our understanding of the host cellular responses to virus infection and the pathogenesis of REV infection, we applied isobaric tags for relative and absolute quantification (iTRAQ) labeling coupled with multidimensional liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry to detect changes in protein levels in chicken embryo fibroblast cells (CEFs) that were infected with REV or mock infected. In total, 605 cellular proteins were differentially expressed, among which 196, 345, and 286 were differentially expressed in REV-infected CEFs at 1, 3, and 5 days postinfection, respectively.
