The Development and Implementation of Adolescent and Young Adult Oncology Programs: Teen Cancer America's Strategy.

Reflecting a growing recognition that adolescents and young adults (AYAs) with cancer have unique needs that demand novel approaches to care delivery, AYA-specific cancer programs are emerging across the United States to better serve this population. However, the limited availability of health system funding to support such efforts, in combination with the dearth of guidance that exists to guide AYA program development and implementation, has hampered the effective development and implementation of AYA oncology programs. In this article, we describe Teen Cancer America's strategy for partnering with hospitals to address this gap and improve care and outcomes for AYAs with cancer.

Mechanical superiority of Pseudoxytenanthera bamboo for sustainable engineering solutions.

The advancement in natural fibre composites has replaced synthetic fibres in various commercial sectors. Bamboo species possess high mechanical properties due to their lignocellulosic fibre content, which makes them suitable for engineering applications and potential alternatives to solid wood. However, despite Bamboo being composed of 130 genera and 1700 different species, out of which many still remains underexplored.

Guidance to Support the Implementation of Specialized Adolescent and Young Adult Cancer Care: A Qualitative Analysis of Cancer Programs.

Purpose: The nearly 90,000 adolescents and young adults (AYAs) diagnosed with cancer in the United States yearly have tended to occupy a no-man's land between medical and pediatric oncology, often reporting that existing models of care are misaligned with their needs and preferences. Although guidelines for optimal AYA cancer care are increasingly available, the implementation of such standards has been varied. This may be in part due to a lack of guidance for implementing specialized AYA care.

An uncommon picture of endomyocardial fibrosis: no embolism yet.

We present here a review of the various gradings of endomyocardial fibrosis from autopsy (Shaper's types). Echocardiography accurately delineates the extent of fibrosis of either the right or left ventricle and we have illustrated a typical classical case. We have images of the same patient from 2010, 2011 and 2012 and so we use this to illustrate the echocardiographic gradings.

Evaluating a 'service elective' in clinical teaching for medical students.

Many medical students wish to begin developing clinical teaching skills before residency. Faculty at the University of California, Irvine developed a 60-hour, longitudinal 'service elective' in teaching skills, which 50 third-year and fourth-year students have completed since 2001. Students learned to enact and rate eight stations of an objective structured teaching examination (OSTE) for generalist resident physicians, broadening this practical training with in-class exercises.
