Besides hyper-accreting black holes, rapidly spinning and highly magnetized neutron stars, known as millisecond magnetars, have been suggested to power both long and short GRBs. The presence of a magnetar engine following compact star mergers is of particular interest as it would provide essential constraints on the poorly understood equation of state for neutron stars.

Elucidating the distinct plasmonic catalytic mechanisms and quantification of their effect is crucial yet highly challenging, due to their complex and synergistic nature. Herein, we achieve the differentiation and quantification of thermal as well as various non-thermal reaction mechanisms in prototypical Au-[Fe(bpy)] antenna-reactor photocatalysts using water splitting as test reaction.

Sodium carboxymethyl cellulose (NaCMC)-based gels have been widely explored for various applications; however, innovative preparation methods are still required to further extend their potential. In this study, we introduced a low-molecular-weight gelator, 3,3',3″-[1,3,5-benzenetriyltris(carbonylimino)]trisbenzoic acid (HL), to induce gelation in NaCMC. The resulting NaCMC/HL gel was further developed into an information-encryption material with misleading functionality.

This study sought to assess the efficacy and safety of this therapeutic combination in patients with advanced or recurrent EC.
Methods: We performed an exhaustive review of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) up to September 25, 2024, examining the efficacy and safety of combining PD-1/PD-L1 inhibitors with CT versus CT alone (or plus placebo) in advanced or recurrent EC.
Chronic cough, which affects approximately 10 % of the global population, is recognized as a significant health issue, especially among females. Recent research suggests that chronic cough may be an independent disease rather than merely a symptom of other conditions. This study focuses on the potential role of exposure to perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in the development of chronic cough, noting that PFAS exposure has been linked to various adverse health outcomes.

Here, we investigated the therapeutic potential and underlying mechanisms of ATL III in the treatment of post-traumatic joint contracture (PTJC) in rat knees.
Methods: The rat PTJC model and TGF-β1-induced a primary synovial fibroblast model were used to observe several fibrotic markers (α-SMA、TGF-β1、FGF2、COL1A1and COL3A1) using histological staining, immunofluorescence and western blot.
Organic scintillators occupy a significant niche in the realm of fast neutron detection. Nevertheless, the cultivation of large-sized and high-quality organic single crystals has persistently posed a formidable challenge. 9,10-diphenylanthracene (DPA) was chosen as a prospective material for fast neutron detection.

The analysis of the spatiotemporal dynamics of CO emission has emerged as a significant research topic considering the dual-carbon goal. In this research, we explore the spatiotemporal changes of CO emission at different scales based on nighttime light data.

Titanium (Ti) implants are widely used due to their excellent mechanical properties and biocompatibility; however, their high elastic modulus, low surface bioactivity, and susceptibility to infection hinder osseointegration and increase failure rates. There is an increasing demand for implants that can resist bacterial infection while promoting osseointegration.

The capability to precisely manipulate the plasmonic chirality in a broad spectral range plays a crucial role in enabling the applications of chiral nanomaterials in diverse and complex scenarios; however, it remains a challenge yet to be addressed. Here we demonstrate a strategy to significantly enhance the tunability of circular dichroism (CD) spectra of chiral nanomaterials by constructing core-shell hybrid metal-semiconductor structures with tailored shells.

Cardiovascular diseases claim over 10 million lives annually, highlighting the critical need for long-term monitoring and early detection of cardiac abnormalities. Existing techniques like electrocardiograms (ECG) and Holter are accurate but suffer from discomfort caused by body-attached electrodes. While wearable devices using photoplethysmography offer more convenience, they sacrifice accuracy and are susceptible to environmental interference.

Intestinal barrier injury contributes to multiple diseases such as obesity and diabetes, whereas no treatment options are available. Due to close interactions between mucosal microbiome and intestinal barrier, we evaluated the potential of mucosal bacteria in providing targets for high-fat diet (HFD)-related intestinal barrier injury. Whole-genome metagenomics was used to evaluate mucosal microbiome, while intestinal barrier injury was estimated using serum LPS, FITC-dextran intensity, and ZO-1 protein.

Our study highlights IME-EFm1, a Caudoviricetes bacteriophage specifically targeting Enterococcus faecium. Through our investigations, we identified that the gene IME-EFm1-ORF24 encodes an amidase, referred to as gp24, with promising lytic capabilities.

While carotenoid accumulation primarily dictates flesh color differences, the influence of volatile compounds on their aromas remains largely unexplored. Here, multiple analytical methods including odor importance assessment, hierarchical clustering, and aroma characterization analysis were employed to investigate volatile compositions and aroma characteristics of the two types of peach, as well as the offspring with identical parentage.
