Rechargeable sodium-chlorine (Na-Cl) batteries show great promise in grid energy storage applications due to their high electrochemical performance. However, the use of highly corrosive thionyl chloride (SOCl)-based electrolytes has severely hindered their real-world applications. Here we show a non-corrosive ester (methyl dichloroacetate) as a promising alternative to SOCl, which can form a non-corrosive electrolyte with aluminum chloride and sodium bis(fluorosulfonyl)imide for high-performance rechargeable Na-Cl batteries.

Manufacturing of ceramics is challenging due to their low toughness and high hardness. Additive Manufacturing (AM) has been explored to create complex ceramic structures, but current techniques face a tradeoff between precisely controlled feature sizes and high shrinkage at the microscales. Here, we introduce 3D-AJP, a novel freeform ceramic fabrication method that enables highly complex microscale 3D ceramic architectures-such as micropillars, spirals, and lattices-with minimal shrinkage and no auxiliary support.

Current battery production relies on the use of large amounts of N-methyl-2-pyrrolidnone (NMP) solvent during electrode preparation, which raises serious concerns in material cost, energy consumption, and toxicity, thus demanding the innovation of dry electrodes with excellent performance. However, state-of-the-art dry electrodes show inferior energy densities, particularly under high-areal-capacity and fast charge/discharge conditions required for practical applications. Here dry production of high-energy-density Li- and Mn-rich (LMR) cathodes is shown based on a thermal-assistant approach.

Melittin has previously been found to have a positive effect on colorectal cancer (CRC) treatment, one of the most difficult-to-treat malignancies, but the mechanism by which this effect occurs remains unclear. We evaluated melittin's pro-apoptotic and anti-metastatic effects on CRC in vitro and in vivo. The results showed that melittin-induced mitochondrial ROS bursts decreased ΔΨm, inhibited Bcl-2 expression, and increased Bax expression in both cells and tumor tissues.

Pescadillo ribosomal biogenesis factor 1 (PES1), a nucleolar protein initially identified in zebrafish, plays an important role in embryonic development and ribosomal biogenesis. Notably, PES1 has been found to be overexpressed in a number of cancer types, where it contributes to tumorigenesis and cancer progression by promoting cell proliferation, suppressing cellular senescence, modulating the tumor microenvironment (TME) and promoting drug resistance in cancer cells. Moreover, recent emerging evidence suggests that PES1 expression is significantly elevated in the livers of Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and obese patients, indicating its involvement in the pathogenesis of metabolic diseases through lipid metabolism regulation.
