Chicken anemia virus (CAV), when primarily transmitted through the vertical route, could result in a significant global prevalence. Specifically, vertical CAV transmission, especially in newly-hatched chicks, may cause anemia and immunosuppression, leading to significant losses in the global poultry industry. Although CAV infection of chick embryos is critical in its vertical transmission, the pathogenicity of CAV in these embryos remains unclear.

A successful strategy employed by RNA viruses to achieve replication is to evade host cell RNase degradation. However, the mechanisms through which plus-strand RNA viruses effectively shield viral RNA from cellular ribonuclease degradation remain unclear. In this study, we identified the phenomenon whereby plus-strand RNA viruses, including avian leukosis virus subgroup J (ALV-J), reticuloendotheliosis virus (REV), chicken astrovirus (CAstV), and porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV), hijacked host cellular Musashi homolog 1 (MSI1).

Synergy between superconductivity and ferromagnetism may offer great opportunities in nondissipative spintronics and topological quantum computing. Yet at the microscopic level, the exchange splitting of the electronic states responsible for ferromagnetism is inherently incompatible with the spin-singlet nature of conventional superconducting Cooper pairs. Here, we exploit the recently discovered van der Waals ferromagnets as enabling platforms with marvelous controllability to unravel the myth between ferromagnetism and superconductivity.

Indigenous chicken breeds have a large market share in China due to their superior production traits, including high meat quality and disease resistance. Yunnan Province is recognized as a major source of domestic chickens globally and boasts a diverse array of indigenous chicken resources. Avian leukosis virus (ALV) induces various tumors and immunosuppression, endangering the poultry industry.

Dissecting the spatial heterogeneity of cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) is vital for understanding tumor biology and therapeutic design. By combining pathological image analysis with spatial proteomics, we revealed two stromal archetypes in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) with different biological functions and extracellular matrix compositions. Using paired single-cell RNA and epigenomic sequencing with Stereo-seq, we revealed two fibroblast subsets CAF-FAP and CAF-C7, whose spatial enrichment strongly correlated with the two stromal archetypes and opposing patient prognosis.

Background: is a conditionally pathogenic bacterium that is inherently resistant to polymyxin and tigecycline, largely due to antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs). These ARGs can be horizontally transferred to other bacteria, raising concerns about the Inc plasmid-mediated ARG transmission from , which poses a serious public health threat. This study aims to investigate the presence of Inc plasmid types in pig-derived in Kunming, Yunnan, China.

Objective: This study aims to analyze anatomical parameters of the transmission route of sigmoid sinus tinnitus (SST) to explore its mechanism and speculate on possible responsible anatomical abnormalities.

Methods: Clinical data were retrospectively collected from SST and sigmoid sinus wall dehiscence (SSWD) patients suggested by temporal bone high resolution computed tomography (HRCT), with and without tinnitus, at the First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University from January 2015 to August 2022. Patients were divided into SSWD tinnitus ( = 61), and non-tinnitus ( = 60) groups based on HRCT features.

  • Triple semicircular canal plugging (TSCP) effectively alleviates vertigo in Meniere's disease (MD) patients, showing a 99% success rate in controlling symptoms.
  • The procedure carries a risk of hearing loss, with a reported rate of 22% among patients, which varies based on the duration of the disease and follow-up time.
  • TSCP is recommended as a surgical option for managing vertigo while preserving hearing in advanced MD patients.

Interferons (IFNs) stimulate the expression of numerous IFN-stimulating genes via the Janus kinase-signal transducers and activators of the transcription (JAK-STAT) signaling pathway, which plays an important role in the host defense against viral infections. In mammals, including humans and mice, a substantial number of IFN-stimulated genes (ISGs) have been identified, and their molecular mechanisms have been elucidated. It is important to note that avian species are phylogenetically distant from mammals, resulting in distinct IFN-induced ISGs that may have different functions.

Article Synopsis
  • The PI3K/AKT signaling pathway is a crucial cellular mechanism that is activated during Newcastle disease virus (NDV) infection, impacting cell function and potentially affecting viral replication.
  • Research indicates that NDV strains can activate this pathway quickly, within 2 hours of infection, which plays a significant role in the virus's ability to invade host cells specifically through clathrin-mediated endocytosis.
  • The study finds that the interaction between NDV F protein and VEGFR2 is essential for activating PI3K/AKT signaling, highlighting the importance of understanding this pathway to improve NDV infection prevention and control in the poultry industry.

Atypical porcine pestivirus (APPV) can cause congenital tremor type A-II in neonatal piglets, posing a significant threat to swine herd health globally. Our previous study demonstrated that the Mut domains, comprising 112 amino acids at the N-terminus, are the primary functional regions of the E2 protein of APPV. This study identified 14 host cellular proteins that exhibit potential interactions with the Mut domains of the E2 protein using yeast two-hybrid screening.

The poor reversibility of the zinc (Zn) anodes and the irreversible deposition/dissolution of Mn/MnO significantly impede the commercialization of Zn-Mn aqueous batteries (ZMABs). In reducing the difference between the desired interfacial reaction environments of the cathode and anode, we found that they face the same problem of interference-the generation of irreversible corrosion products. Herein, we have introduced a novel self-regulatory mechanism.

While lysine methylation is well-known for regulating gene expression transcriptionally, its implications in translation have been largely uncharted. Trimethylation at lysine 22 (K22me3) on RPL40, a core ribosomal protein located in the GTPase activation center, was first reported 27 years ago. Yet, its methyltransferase and role in translation remain unexplored.

The H9N2 subtype of the avian influenza virus (AIV) is widely prevalent in birds, threatening the poultry industry and providing genetic material for emerging human pathogens. The prevalence and genetic characteristics of H9N2 in Yunnan Province, China, are largely unknown. Samples were collected from live poultry markets (LPMs) and breeding farms in Yunnan Province.

Porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV) is a highly infectious pathogen that targets pig intestines to cause disease. It is globally widespread and causes huge economic losses to the pig industry. PEDV N protein is the protein that constitutes the core of PEDV virus particles, and most of it is expressed in the cytoplasm, and a small part can also be expressed in the nucleus.

Van der Waals (vdW) magnetic materials have broad application prospects in next-generation spintronics. Inserting magnetic elements into nonmagnetic vdW materials can introduce magnetism and enhance various transport properties. Herein, the unconventional magnetic and magneto-transport phenomena is reported in NiTaSeS crystal by intercalating Ni atoms into nonmagnetic 2H-TaSeS matrix.

Introduction: Porcine epidemic diarrhea (PED) is an acute, highly contagious, and high-mortality enterophilic infectious disease caused by the porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV). PEDV is globally endemic and causes substantial economic losses in the swine industry. The PEDV E protein is the smallest structural protein with high expression levels that interacts with the M protein and participates in virus assembly.

Hydropericardium hepatitis syndrome (HHS) is primarily caused by fowl adenovirus serotype 4 (FAdV-4), causing high mortality in chickens. Although vaccination strategies against FAdV-4 have been adopted, HHS still occurs sporadically. Furthermore, no effective drugs are available for controlling FAdV-4 infection.
