The advancement of efficient, recyclable adsorbents for the economical capture of uranium from seawater is critical for the sustainable progression of nuclear energy. In this work, a unique aerogel composed of covalent organic frameworks (COF-TpTHA)/cellulose nanofibrils (CNF) was synthesized under mild conditions for uranium adsorption. TpTHA/CNF aerogel resolves challenges related to the formability of COF.

Objectives: The current study aimed to investigate the value of the computed tomography-based left-versus-right adrenal gland volume ratio (L/Rv) in screening patients with unilateral primary aldosteronism.

Methods: The current study recruited 114 patients who underwent successful adrenal venous sampling (AVS) and adrenal computed tomography at West China Hospital of Sichuan University. The patients were divided into three groups according to the AVS results: AVS-left, AVS-bilateral, and AVS-right primary aldosteronism.

Consumer acceptability of whole wheat foods is challenged by negative bitter flavour attributes. In this study, bitter compounds in whole wheat bread crumb were investigated. Utilising sensory-guided multi-dimensional fractionation techniques, the compounds with the highest bitterness intensity in the crumb were purified and identified by LC-MS-ToF and NMR techniques.

The influence of wheat flour type (refined (RWF)/whole (WWF)) on bread crust aroma was investigated. Differences were characterized by aroma extract dilution analysis and quantified utilizing stable isotope surrogate standards. For RWF breads, five aroma compounds were higher in concentration, 2-acetyl-1-pyrroline, 4-hydroxy-2,5-dimethyl-3(2H)-furanone, 2-phenylethanol, 2-acetyl-2-thiazoline, and 2,4-dihyroxy-2,5-dimethyl-3(2H)-furanone, by 4.

The generation of pyrazinium radical cations during the early stages of the Maillard reaction has been previously demonstrated. In this study, the effect of food phenolic compounds [4-methylcatechol (4-MeC), (+)-catechin (CAT), and (-)-epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG)] on the fate of these intermediates in Maillard model systems was investigated. Aqueous solutions containing either glyoxal + alanine (GO-A) or glycolaldehyde + alanine (GA-A) were treated with a concentration gradient of each phenolic compound, and quantitative analysis of the resulting pyrazinium radicals in these models was performed using electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy.

To investigate the late effects of radiation on child-bearing women, a follow-up study was performed on a 39-year-old survivor 16 years after a (60)Co radiation accident. The woman, Fang, was 19 weeks pregnant at the time of exposure. Physical examinations, a full range of clinical laboratory and imaging tests, as well as cytogenetic analyses were conducted to evaluate Fang's current health conditions.
