The coexistence of antibiotics with heavy metals is detrimental to humans and the environment. In urban water environments, Cadmium (Cd) and ciprofloxacin (CIP) frequently co-occur. Biogenic manganese oxides (BMOs) are a promising environmental bioremediation material due to their remarkable adsorption and oxidation properties.

Cd(II)-induced pollution across diverse water bodies severely threatens ecosystems and human health. Nevertheless, achieving ultra-efficient and cost-effective treatment of trace amounts of heavy metals remains a major challenge. Herein, the novel carbon sub-micrometer composites (CSMCs) supported Fe@γ-FeO core-shell clusters nanostructures are designed and synthesized through a series of universally applicable methods.

Stabilized sludge products (SSP) are promising conditioners for saline-alkali soils, capable of enhancing soil physicochemical properties and stimulating microbial communities. However, there is limited knowledge regarding the effects of SSP on soil salt-discharge capacity and carbon/nitrogen cycles. Here, a six-month incubation experiment was conducted to evaluate SSP (0 % ~ 60 %) on saline-alkali soil properties, salt leaching, and microbial functions.

  • Depression is a major health issue for Chinese children and adolescents, with a meta-analysis revealing a pooled prevalence of 26.17% for depressive symptoms based on 439 studies involving over 1.4 million participants.
  • Different scales for assessment indicated varying prevalence rates, with the SDS scale showing a higher rate (28.80%) compared to the CES-D scale (24.50%).
  • The study found significant variability in prevalence among different regions, with high school students showing the highest rates (28.23%) and certain provinces like Qinghai and Tibet reporting alarmingly high numbers, though based on fewer studies.

Dosing iron salts is a widely adopted strategy for sewer odor and corrosion management, and it can affect bioenergy recovery during anaerobic digestion (AD) of sludge in downstream wastewater treatment plants. However, the different impacts of in-sewer iron salt dosing on AD, depending on the types of iron and digestion conditions, remain unclear. Therefore, this study investigated the impact of in-sewer ferrous (Fe(II)) and ferrate (Fe(VI)) dosing on bioenergy recovery in both conventional AD and AD with thermal hydrolysis pretreatment (THP).

Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) is a non-invasive neuromodulation technique to activate or inhibit the activity of neurons, and thereby regulate their excitability. This technique has demonstrated potential in the treatment of neuropsychiatric disorders, such as depression. However, the effect of TMS on neurons with different severity of depression is still unclear, limiting the development of efficient and personalized clinical application parameters.

This study presents a theoretical framework for calculating acoustic scattering fields, as well as radiation force and torque resulting from the interaction between an incident wave and an axisymmetric object positioned at arbitrary orientations. Grounded in the partial-wave expansion method, it formulates scattering products using beam-shape and scalar scattering coefficients. The incorporation of geometric features into the scalar scattering coefficients is achieved through the conformal transformation approach.

, a native to China, is renowned as a highly popular gardening plant. However, this plant faces significant challenges from drought stress, which can adversely affect its flowering. In this study, we found that the plasma membrane-localized gene exhibited a substantial upregulation during the flowering stages and in response to drought stress.

Creating an ecological security pattern is crucial for balancing the sustainable development of areas where human activities and the natural environment intersect. Using Hefei, an internationally recognized Wetland City, as a case study, we extracted ecological sources through ecological service function (ESF) analysis and morphological spatial pattern analysis (MSPA) core area connectivity analysis. Based on these ecological sources, we developed an ecological resistance surface system and identified ecological corridors and nodes using circuit theory.

In this study, the influence and relationship between the microbial structure composition at different spatial locations during soy sauce fermentation and the quality of soy sauce were investigated. Within 3-7 days of fermentation, the abundance of Chromohalobacter in the surface and upper layers of moromi was initially high but subsequently decreased. In contrast, Tetragenococcus exhibited low abundance on the surface of moromi at the beginning of fermentation but emerged as the absolute dominant bacteria by the end of the fermentation process.

  • Iodine deficiency is a known cause of goiter, but this study investigates how lifestyle factors may also contribute to its prevalence among children and adolescents in Zhejiang Province, China.
  • A survey of 2261 participants aged 6-17 found that 10.8% had goiter, with high urinary iodine concentration linked to lower goiter risk, while poor lifestyle habits like excessive screen time increased the risk.
  • The findings highlight the importance of maintaining adequate iodine levels and promoting healthy lifestyle habits to prevent goiter, suggesting that public health efforts should focus on both nutrition and lifestyle changes.

Dewatering is an indispensable link in sludge treatment, but its effect on the microplastics (MPs) remains inadequately understood. This study investigated the physicochemical changes and leaching behavior of MPs during the mechanical dewatering of sludge, as well as the impact of MP leachates on activated sludge (AS). After sludge dewatering, MPs exhibit rougher surfaces, decreased sizes and altered functional groups due to the addition of dewatering agents and the application of mechanical force.
