In ectothermic animals, elevational gradients, such as mountainous environments, are often associated with shifts in body size, although patterns differ across taxa and contexts. Mountain landscapes are characterised by relatively rapid shifts in biotic and abiotic conditions along an elevational gradient, commonly referred to as elevational zonation. Such zonation can reduce the geographic scale at which organisms experience the effects of climate change.

RR manifests as delayed and progressive microvasculopathy, ischemia and macular edema, ultimately leading to vision loss, neovascular glaucoma, and, in extreme cases, secondary enucleation. Intravitreal anti-VEGF agents, steroids and laser photocoagulation have limited effects on RR.

While aging has been associated with decreased retrieval of episodic memory details, subjective ratings about memory quality seem to remain stable. This suggests that subjective memory judgments are based on different information according to age. Here, we tested the hypothesis that older people would rather base their subjective judgments on the retrieval of personal elements (such as emotions and thoughts), whereas younger people would rather base their judgments on the retrieval of event-related elements (such as time, place, and perceptual details).

Objectives: To investigate using genome-based approaches the dynamics of ESC-R and CP-R Enterobacterales among 125 dogs admitted to the same veterinary hospital over a 4 month period.
Methods: Dogs (n = 125) were sampled within 48 h of admission and at discharge.
What information about a person's personality do people want to know? Prior research has focused on behavioral , but personality is also characterized in terms of . Four studies ( = 1,502) assessed participants' interest in information about seven fundamental social motives (self-protection, disease avoidance, affiliation, status, mate seeking, mate retention, kin care) across 12 experimental conditions that presented details about the person or situation. In the absence of details about specific situations, participants most highly prioritized learning about kin care and mate retention motives.

This is enabled by the generation of two dispersive waves in a 3-mm-long dispersion-engineered nano-waveguide. The waveguide is pumped at telecom wavelengths (1555 nm) with 3.

The reported incidence of coagulopathy from copperhead envenomation is variable, possibly secondary to regional variation in subspecies and venom potency. Coagulation studies are often obtained when evaluating for the coagulopathic effects of copperhead venom, but the clinical utility of these indices is unclear.

We investigated the plasmidic co-localization of ESBL genes and pathovar-associated VF genes isolated in 18 E. coli isolates from faecal samples of diseased cattle.

The fiber is designed such that the Raman-shifting soliton successively hits three times the longitudinally evolving zero-dispersion wavelength, which results in the emission of three distinct dispersive waves at different fiber lengths. These results illustrate how suitably controlled axially-varying fibers allow to tailor the soliton dynamics in a very accurate way.

Objective: To utilise African giant pouched rats (Cricetomys gambianus) for the diagnosis of tuberculosis (TB) in human sputum.
Design: A specially designed cage with 10 sniffing holes and cassette-carrier was used.
Intraoperative Doppler exploration during neurosurgery was used during treatment of intracranial aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations (AVM) and cerebral revascularization by extra-intra cranial anastomosis (EICA). It was also employed to study behavior of cortical arteries under different conditions. During treatment of aneurysms, Doppler can show, prior to clipping, whether blood flow through.

The general relationships are described for collimated, point reference, or reconstruction sources. Some relevant methods for correlating the transverse magnification at different longitudinal distances are also described.

Here, with Michael Billet and Judyth Aarons, they give a detailed description of three games which currently form part of the curriculum at the University of Nottingham Medical School.
