The experiences of, and need for, palliative care for people with motor neurone disease and their informal caregivers: A qualitative systematic review.

Background: Despite being a terminal neurodegenerative disease, the role of palliative care is less recognised for motor neurone disease than for other life-limiting conditions. Understanding the experiences of, and need for, palliative care for patients and carers is key to configuring optimal policy and healthcare services.

Aim: To explore the experiences of, and need for, palliative care of people with motor neurone disease and their informal carers across the disease trajectory.

Palliative sedation therapy.

It is sometimes not possible to relieve symptoms adequately in dying patients. When all other remedies have failed, sedation can be a useful means to relieve terminal suffering. When used appropriately, palliative sedation does not, and should not, shorten life.

Serum and sputum concentrations following the oral administration of linezolid in adult patients with cystic fibrosis.

Objectives: Linezolid is a new oxazolidinone antibiotic with efficacy against a broad range of Gram-positive bacteria, including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). In this study, we have determined the serum and sputum linezolid concentrations in adults with cystic fibrosis (CF) following oral drug administration.

Methods: Eleven adult patients with CF were recruited.
