Background: Loiasis is endemic in the northern and western part of the Republic of Congo. Between 2004 and 2010, surveys were conducted, using the RAPLOA method, in all departments of the Republic of Congo to assess the distribution of loiasis. Prior to 2004, only two parasitological surveys on loiasis had been conducted in Congo and mainly in the Department of Lékoumou, in the southwestern of the country.

Unlike complications of systemic corticosteroid therapy that have been extensively described, complications of locoregional corticosteroid injection are not well documented. The purpose of this report is to describe a case involving iatrogenic injury due to local corticosteroid therapy in a 17-year-old woman. Following injection of triamicinolone into the wrist, the patient developed pigmentation change, muscle wasting, and tendon rupture.

Bone mineral content (BMC in g) as well as bone mineral density (BMD in g/cm2) were measured by dual photon absorptiometry in 20 black africans and 20 white individuals of the same age and sex. The BMC of african males, as well as their body mass index (BMI), were significantly less than those of the whites. In contrast, neither BMD nor the ratio of BMC to BMI differed between the two groups.
