Hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) is a life-threatening disease, with a high mortality if left untreated. In addition, the disease has unique diagnostic challenges. Therefore, despite the existing guidelines on management, current clinical practice data is informative on the course and outcome.

Did the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) Pandemic Cause a Delay in the Diagnosis of Breast Cancer Patients?

Introduction The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak, first reported in Wuhan, China, in December 2019, quickly hit the world in just one month, causing a global public health emergency. We aimed to investigate whether the COVID-19 pandemic caused a delay in the hospital admissions of breast cancer patients and diagnosis of breast cancer, thus increasing the tumor size and the stage of the disease. Materials and methods Included in the study were patients who underwent breast cancer surgery between 01/03/2019 and 01/03/2020 (pre-COVID-19, first period) and between 01/03/2020 and 01/03/2021 (post-COVID-19, second period).

Axillary Lymph Nodes in Breast Cancer Patients After COVID-19 Vaccine.

One of the side effects of vaccines used to end the COVID-19 epidemic is non-specifically enlarged axillary lymph nodes. Such lymphadenopathy detected during clinical examination of breast cancer patients may require additional imaging or interventional procedures that should not normally be performed. This study has been designed to estimate the incidence of palpable enlarged axillary lymph node in breast cancer patients who had received COVID-19 vaccination in the past 3 months in the same arm as compared to those without vaccination.

Is it Possible to Diagnose "Non-Invasive Follicular Thyroid Neoplasm with Papillary-Like Nuclear Features" Preoperatively?

There is no accepted consensus or algorithm for the preoperative diagnosis of non-invasive follicular thyroid neoplasm with papillary-like nuclear features (NIFTP) in patients with thyroid nodules. In this study, we evaluated the importance of preoperative neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio and platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio in the differential diagnosis of NIFTP. Pathology preparations of 209 patients with a follicular variant of papillary thyroid carcinoma (FVPTC) diagnosed after thyroid surgery in a tertiary health center between January 2010 and January 2020 were re-evaluated.

Does Home Oral Nutritional Support Improve Nutritional Status and Quality of Life following Colorectal Cancer Surgery?

Oral nutritional support (ONS) is a form of supportive intervention in patients' diet in response to insufficient oral intake, malabsorption, or functional insufficient food intake during the disease process. This study aimed to evaluate the nutritional status, morbidity, re-admissions, functional status, QoL of patients who had undergone elective colorectal cancer surgery and initiated home ONS. A total of 144 patients who had undergone colorectal cancer surgery and given home ONS were analyzed with regard to demographics, diagnosis, weight-BMI changes, re-admissions, morbidity, daily caloric and protein intake, functional status (Barthel index) and QoL (The Satisfaction with Life Scale-SWLS).

Objectives: Prophylactic contralateral/bilateral mastectomy (PCM/PBM), as a risk-reducing mastectomy procedure, has a few evidence-based indica- tions; however, there is an increasing trend in the total number of operations globally. Worldwide famous actress Angelina Jolie was detected to have BRCA-1 mutation and underwent a prophylactic bilateral mastectomy in 2013. The procedure was perceived as 'lifesaving' worldwide, which eventually led to a significant increase in BRCA gene mutation analysis and PCM/PBM.

Did the COVID-19 Pandemic Affect the Management of Patients With Acute Appendicitis?

Background The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has changed the lives and habits of people all over the world. In this study, it was planned to investigate the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on the diagnosis and treatment duration of acute appendicitis (AA), morbidity and mortality. Methods The data of patients who were operated on with the diagnosis of AA in our clinic between March 2019 and March 2021, divided into pre-COVID and post-COVID periods, were analyzed.

Breast Hamartoma: Clinical, Radiological, and Histopathological Evaluation.

Objective: Breast hamartomas are rare, benign, and slow-growing breast tumors that can be definitively diagnosed by combining the results of clinical, radiological, and histopathological examination. This study aimed to evaluate the clinical, radiological, and histopathological features of hamartomas and summarize our clinical approach to hamartomas.

Materials And Methods: Patients diagnosed with breast hamartoma between 2010 and 2020 in our clinic were retrospectively analyzed.

Non invasive follicular thyroid neoplasm with papillary-like nuclear features (NIFT-P). A clinic evaluation of novel nomenclature.

Aim: We aimed to find out unnecessarily overdiagnosed and overtreated patients, their preventable morbidities, expenditures which might not have occurred in the last decade concerning newly proposed nomenclature MATERIAL AND METHODS: Among 1553 patients operated between 2010-2019, 197 were recorded. Pathology specimens were re-evaluated by two experienced pathologists to reveal those patients who could have diagnosed as NIFT-P.

Results: According to the changes first suggested by Nikiforov in 2016 and partially revised in 2018; 55 of 197 patients were diagnosed with NIFT-P.
