Background: Addressing oculoplastic conditions in the preoperative period ensures both the safety and functional success of any ophthalmic procedure. Some oculoplastic conditions, like nasolacrimal duct obstruction, have been extensively studied, whereas others, like eyelid malposition and thyroid eye disease, have received minimal or no research.

Aim: To investigate the current practice patterns among ophthalmologists while treating concomitant oculoplastic conditions before any subspecialty ophthalmic intervention.

Background: Knowledge about refractive stabilization and the accuracy of postoperative refractive error measurements are crucial for improved patient outcomes after phacoemulsification. Existing guidelines typically recommend waiting 4-6 wk before prescribing corrective lenses. Our research focused on identifying factors that influence refractive errors in the early stages of post-cataract surgery, thus contributing to the existing literature on this topic.

Background and objectives Over the years, several treatment options have been developed for neovascular age-related macular degeneration (AMD), the most notable being intravitreal injections of anti-vascular endothelial growth factor drugs. The rationale for treating neovascular AMD is to preserve and improve central vision, enhance the quality of life for affected individuals, stabilize or improve vision, and prevent further structural damage to the macula. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the clinical course of different disease types of neovascular age-related macular degeneration and their treatment response to anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (anti-VEGF) injections.

A mature, hypermature, or white cataract needs posterior segment evaluation before surgery for prognostification. Ultrasonography is the preferred method for this. White cataract or intumescent cataract risks intraoperative capsulorhexis running out leading to devastating complications due to high intralenticular pressure.

A systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted to evaluate the success and complications of endoscopic laser dacryocystorhinostomy (ELDCR) vs. external dacryocystorhinostomy (ExDCR) in primarily acquired nasal duct obstruction. The search of PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials databases revealed 109 studies on ELDCR and ExDCR.

Systemic malignancy can induce hypercoagulation and can cause retinal vein occlusion (RVO). Although RVO has been reported in association with breast, renal, lung, prostate, and ovarian malignancies, it has not been reported in brain tumors. We are reporting a case of bilateral central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO) associated with recurrent frontal lobe gliosarcoma.

Purpose: Ripasudil is a class of drug which alters the trabecular meshwork to increase the aqueous outflow and has been shown to be effective in pseudoexfoliative glaucoma (PXF G). This study aimed at assessing the efficacy and safety profile of ripasudil as an adjunct treatment in patients with PXF G at maximal tolerated antiglaucoma medications.

Methods: In this prospective, interventional study, 40 patients with PXF G were enrolled between May 2021 and Jan 2022.

Swellings in medial canthal area in eye most often involve the lacrimal sac, the commonest aetiology being chronic dacryocystitis. Very rarely, there is a deviation in the routine diagnosis when the pathology comes out to be a lacrimal sac tumour. We report the case of a young man who presented with a medial canthal mass not extending above the medial canthal ligament.

Objective: The aim of this meta-analysis was to compare the functional outcomes and complications of external fixation (EF) versus open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) in the treatment of complex tibial plateau fractures.

Methods: Based on a comprehensive search of major databases through PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL), 19 studies comparing EF versus ORIF in treatment of complex tibial plateau fractures (Schatzker V-VI/ OTA C1, C2, and C3) were included in the studies. There was one randomized controlled trial, two prospective comparative studies, 14 retrospective comparative studies, and two conference papers.

Purpose: Hip fractures among elderly patients are surgical emergencies. During COVID-19 pandemic time, many such patients could not be operated at early time because of the limitation of the medical resources, the risk of infection and redirection of medical attention to a severe infective health problem.

Methods: A search of electronic databases (PubMed, Medline, CINAHL, EMBASE and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials) with the keywords "COVID", "COVID-19″, "SARS-COV-2", "Corona", "pandemic", "hip fracture", "trochanteric fracture" and "neck femur fracture" revealed 64 studies evaluating treatment of hip fracture in elderly patients during COVID-19 pandemic time.

Background: Topical corticosteroids have been the cornerstone in the management of postoperative inflammation following cataract surgery. Due to potential side effects of the older topical steroids like prednisolone acetate and dexamethasone or betamethasone, newer potent steroids preparation like difluprednate, loteprednol or fluorometholone are now being used at lesser dose and frequency to control inflammation. There is scanty literature on the efficacy of these drugs in preventing inflammation and macular oedema in the Indian population.

Article Synopsis
  • Limb length discrepancy (LLD) after total knee arthroplasty (TKA) can lead to poor patient outcomes, with varying degrees of LLD reported post-surgery.
  • Studies show that 44% to 83.3% of patients experience postoperative radiographic LLD, with average limb lengthening around 5.98 mm.
  • Patients with LLD of 10 mm or more tend to have significantly worse functional outcomes compared to those with less than 10 mm of discrepancy.
