Purpose: To investigate the frequency of CBCT scans, the exposure settings, volume sizes and the patient demographics (age and sex) of patients undergoing CBCT scans in university-based dental hospitals in different European countries over a one-year period.

Method: Eight University Dental Hospitals from eight countries in central and northern Europe agreed to collect data from their CBCT-databases. Exposure data including field of view (FOV), dose area product (DAP) and optimization settings plus (anonymous) age and sex of the patients were collected for the entire year 2023.

Objectives: To investigate the prevalence of incidental findings and need for further dental treatment and analyse the influence of size of field-of-view (FOV) and age in cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) for pre-implant planning.

Methods: 404 CBCT scans were examined retrospectively for incidental findings and need for further dental treatment. Incidental finding-frequencies and need for further treatment were assessed for different age (< 40 years, 40-60 years, > 60 years) and FOV groups (small, medium, large).

Objectives: The purpose of this prospective study was to determine the inter- and intraindividual variability in virtual single-tooth implant positioning based on the level of expertise, specialty, total time spent, and the use of a prosthetic tooth setup.

Materials And Methods: Virtual implant planning was performed on matched pre- and post-extraction intraoral scans (IOS), and cone-beam computed tomography scans of 15 patients. Twelve individual examiners, involving six novices and experts from oral surgery and prosthodontics positioned the implants, first based on anatomical landmarks utilizing only the post-extraction, and second with the use of the pre-extraction IOS as a setup.

This study investigated the impact of active rest intervals within a lower body complex training session on post-activation performance enhancement (PAPE) response in amateur soccer players. Twelve soccer players took part in four different experimental conditions. These sessions included 2 sets of lower body complex-paired exercises, each involving 3 repetitions of either back squats or hip thrusts at 90% one-repetition maximum (1RM) as a conditioning activity paired with a broad jump and countermovement jump.

Purpose: Evidence directly comparing the effects of bilateral and unilateral conditioning activities is limited. Therefore, the aim of this study was to assess the acute effect of unilateral and bilateral conditioning activity on vastus lateralis stiffness, countermovement jump parameters, and 10 m sprint.

Methods: Twelve semi-professional basketball players participated in this study (age: 23 ± 4 yrs; body mass: 84.

Exercise order is one of the significant factors modulating training effects. Therefore, the aim of this study was to compare the effectiveness of an 8-week complex (CPX) training program utilizing intra-CPX active recovery with compound training (CMP) on bilateral and single-leg jumping performance, change of direction test time (shuttle test), and the post-activation performance enhancement (PAPE) response in a group of basketball players. Thirteen participants were performing CPX bi-weekly combined with regular pre-season basketball practice, while eleven participants were performing CMP for 8 weeks.

Objectives: To retrospectively evaluate all cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) scans acquired from 2017 to 2022 in a Swiss university dental clinic with particular emphasis on radiation protection aspects.

Material And Methods: Radiological databases at the dental clinic of the University of Bern, Switzerland, were explored using a self-developed search algorithm. Data of all acquired CBCT from 01.

Article Synopsis
  • A study aimed to assess the effectiveness of maximum isometric squats as a conditioning activity (CA) on jump performance, specifically squat jumps (SJ) and countermovement jumps (CMJ).
  • 31 semi-professional athletes were divided into two groups: one performed isometric squats before jumps, while the other did not have any conditioning activity.
  • Results showed significant increases in both SJ and CMJ heights after the conditioning activity, indicating that using isometric squats can enhance explosive jump performance regardless of the presence of a stretch and shortening cycle.

The preservation of osseointegration is fundamental for the long-term success of dental implants. Breakdown of osseointegration may occur in cases of aseptic implant loosening, a poorly understood process leading to sudden implant failure. So far, no evidence-based therapy concept exists for implants with aseptic loosening.

Introduction: A clinically useful all-in-one endodontic irrigant with combined proteolytic and decalcifying properties is still elusive. In this study, the chemical effects of dissolving the tetrasodium salts of 1-hydroxyethane 1,1-diphosphonic acid (NaHEDP) or NaEDTA directly in sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) irrigants in polypropylene syringes were assessed during the course of 1 hour.

Methods: The solubility of the salts in water was determined.

Anal cancer was diagnosed in a 36-year-old nulliparous woman. Before chemoradiation was started, ovarian transposition and uterine fixation were performed in order to preserve capability for future parenthood. Despite of a low anti-Mullerian hormone level, IVF therapy was successful and resulted in a full-term delivery of a healthy baby by cesarean section.

Background: In an elective laparoscopic surgery, the cosmetic outcome becomes increasingly important. We conducted a study to evaluate the cosmetic outcome 3 months after a laparoscopic procedure and compared skin adhesive (SA) versus transcutaneous suture (TS).

Methods: A randomized, controlled, prospective study was conducted at a single study centre in Hamburg, Germany.

Aim: To assess two contemporary rotary instrumenting systems subjectively and objectively in a pre-clinical student course setting.

Methodology: Undergraduate dental students (n = 44) prepared mesiolingual canals of 3D-printed mandibular molar replicas (RepliDens, Zurich, Switzerland). The HyFlex and BioRace rotary systems, both previously unknown to the students, were used according to the manufacturers' guidelines after a short theoretical introduction.

Objective: To analyse hospital activity, the characteristics and course of patients having been classified, by the programme of medical information system (French PMSI) in the major diagnostic category of respiratory disorders (CMD n(o) 4).

Study: Using the files created by Saint-Gaudens Hospital (145 acute beds, 7000 annual admissions) for three years within the context of the national study of the cost of medical activity. A descriptive statistical analysis then an explanation of the variations of consumptions by stay and by patient.

Between February 1989 and June 1994 193 cases of acute community acquired pneumonia (PAC) which were of intermediate or great severity were admitted to two hospitals in the South West of France. These patients were explored using bronchofibroscopy (FB) with a protected brush (BP) and alveolar microlavage (MLBA) and quantitative cultures were performed, also there were other specimens taken in a regular fashion. The percentage of positive examinations was 60% for brushings (BP), 59% for MLBA and 21% for blood cultures and 16% for serological tests.
