Purpose: This study aims to refine management strategies for malunion and nonunion of Hoffa fractures, as these rare complications present significant clinical challenges.
Methods: We conducted a case series involving seven patients with Hoffa fracture complications, including four cases of malunion and three cases of nonunion. Each patient underwent individualized surgical treatment, depending on the nature of their complication.
Background: Although the intramedullary nail represents the treatment for most tibia diaphyseal fractures, there is no agreement on the configuration of the distal locking screws. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the impact of the configuration of distal locking bolts on the healing of a tibial shaft fracture.
Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 170 closed fractures of the tibia diaphyseal operated consecutively between 2018 and 2021.
Objective: Analyze the current evidence on the treatment and outcomes of hyperextension fractures of the tibial plateau and propose a treatment algorithm.
Methods: An electronic search at PubMed/MEDLINE, Cochrane Library, Embase, and Google Scholar database from December 24th, 2023 to June 26th, 2024 was carried out. The terms for the database search included "Hyperextension AND Tibial plateau fractures" and "Reversed Tibial Slope AND Tibial Plateau Fractures".
Purpose: This cohort study aimed to describe the functional outcomes, complications, and mortality of patients over 65 with acute distal femur fractures treated with open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) or distal femoral replacement (DFR).
Methods: We retrospectively analyzed all patients older than 65, operated consecutively for a distal femur fracture treated with ORIF or DFR. We included 75 patients (9 33A, 5 33B, and 61 33C AO/OTA fractures), 55 treated with ORIF, and 20 with DFR.
Determining the true availability of resources and understanding the level of training of surgeons involved in the treatment of patients with pelvic fractures and haemorrhagic shock is critical. In the herein study, the availability of technical, technological, and human resources for the care of this injury in Latin America region was analysed, and the preferences of orthopaedic trauma surgeons when performing interventions for the diagnosis and treatment of patients with pelvic trauma and associated haemorrhagic shock was described. A cross sectional web-based survey containing questions on knowledge, attitudes, and practices with respect to imaging resources, emergency pelvic stabilization methods, and interventions used for bleeding control was sent to 948 Latin America orthopaedic trauma surgeons treating pelvic fractures in the emergency department.

Methods: We retrospectively analyzed a series of consecutive patients with infected nonunion of the femur or the tibia treated with antibiotic-cement-coated rigid nails between January 2010 and 2020. We assessed patients' distinctive characteristics, initial injury, type of nail used (custom-made nail with vancomycin or commercial nail with gentamicin), success rate (bone union + infection control), reoperation rate, and failure rate.
Objective: the management of septic metaphyseal nonunions is challenging, with inconsistent outcomes. Antibiotic cement-coated implants have been demonstrated good outcome for diaphyseal infected nonunions, however there is no data in metaphyseal infected nonunions.

Resulting from it is another epidemic, that of fragility fractures, which adversely affects morbidity and mortality of this population. Introduction: The tibial plateau fractures due to high-energy mechanisms are serious injuries that occur on a load bearing joint. These are difficult to approach because, also affect the bone structure of the leg, they usually have associated soft tissue injuries.
Objective: To evaluate the radiological and functional results of high-energy tibial plateau fractures with a minimum follow-up of one year.
Purpose: This study examined soft-tissue coverage techniques of open tibia fractures, described soft-tissue treatment patterns across income groups, and determined resource accessibility and availability in Latin America.
Methods: A 36-question survey was distributed to orthopaedic surgeons in Latin America through two networks: national orthopaedic societies and the Asociación de Cirujanos Traumatólogos de las Américas (ACTUAR). Demographic information was collected, and responses were stratified by income groups: high-income countries (HICs) and middle-income countries (MICs).

Purpose: To report the incidence and morphology of ipsilateral distal articular involvement (DAI) in a consecutive series of tibial shaft fractures.
Method: A retrospective review was performed on 115 patients who underwent intramedullary nailing for tibia shaft fractures. Ankle evaluations included preoperative radiographs and computed tomography (CT) scans in all patients.
Background: The Reamer-Irrigator-Aspirator system was initially developed to reduce fat embolism and thermic necrosis during reamed intramedullary nail fixation of femoral shaft fractures. Currently, this system is used in extended applications including accessing large volume of autologous bone graft, as alternative for iliac crest harvesting. Antegrade femoral bone graft harvesting using the Reamer-Irrigator-Aspirator system is considered the standard technique.
