This study evaluated the effect of 3-(4-fluorophenylselenyl)-2,5-diphenylselenophene (DPS) in the mouse forced swim test (FST) and tail suspension test (TST), two assays predictive of depressant activity. The involvement of serotonergic system in the effect caused by DPS was studied. The antidepressant-like effect of combined treatment with subeffetive doses of DPS and paroxetine, a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) was investigated.

We evaluated the in vitro antioxidant effect of alkyl-organotellurides A-D on lipid peroxidation and protein carbonylation in rat liver homogenates. The thiol oxidase and thiol peroxidase-like activities of compounds were investigated. delta-Aminolevulinic acid dehydratase (delta-ALA-D) activity was determined in rat liver homogenates.

The subsequent cyclization of a wide variety of Z-enynols afforded substituted furans and dihydrofurans with high regioselectivity under mild reaction conditions.

Rat pups were progressively exposed to four, five, and six cigarettes for exposure periods of 15 min during their first, second, and third weeks of life. Thiobarbituric acid reactive species (TBARS) levels, components of the enzymatic antioxidant defenses (superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase, glutathione peroxidase (GPx), glutathione reductase (GR) and glutathione S-transferase (GST) activities), and non-enzymatic antioxidant defenses (vitamin C and non-protein thiol (NPSH) levels) were examined in lungs of pups.
