Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigated the link between the gene SNP (rs2536) and the risk of reproductive cancers, analyzing 700 tumor samples from breast, ovarian, and cervical cancers alongside control tissues.
  • - Researchers utilized Tetra-ARMS PCR to screen for the rs2536 genotype and quantitative PCR to assess gene expression levels.
  • - Results indicated a significantly higher frequency of the homozygous mutant genotype of rs2536 in breast, ovarian, and cervical cancers, along with a notable downregulation of gene expression in tumors, suggesting an association with increased cancer risk.

Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) is an emerging technology that provides three-dimensional images of the microanatomy of biological tissue in-vivo and at micrometer-scale resolution. OCT imaging has been widely used to diagnose and manage various medical diseases, such as macular degeneration, glaucoma, and coronary artery disease. Despite its wide range of applications, the segmentation of OCT images remains difficult due to the complexity of tissue structures and the presence of artifacts.

Acute spinal cord injury consists of a primary, traumatic event followed by a cascade of secondary events resulting in ongoing cell damage and death. There is great interest in prevention of these secondary effects to reduce permanent long-term neurologic deficits. One such target includes reactive oxygen species released following injury, which can be enzymatically converted into less harmful molecules by superoxide dismutase and catalase.
