Microbial biofilms constitute a significant virulence factor and a substantial challenge in clinical environments due to their role in promoting antimicrobial resistance and their resilience to eradication efforts. Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infections substantially increase healthcare costs, extend hospitalizations, and elevate morbidity and mortality rates. Hemorrhagic stroke is a severe complication reported in cases of Bothrops atrox snakebite envenomation. We report an unusual case of a patient who evolved with an intracranial hemorrhagic stroke and was in a coma for more than five years in a tertiary hospital located in Manaus, Amazonas. 52-year-old man, carpenter, resident in the rural area of the municipality of Tabatinga, located 1106 km from Manaus, capital of Amazonas, Brazil, victim of an accident involving Bothrops atrox evolution with cardiorespiratory arrest, acute kidney injury and hemorrhagic stroke.

Macrolides are critically important antimicrobials for both human and animal health and should be prioritized in risk assessments, as inappropriate use may result in antimicrobial resistance. The widely used mood stabilizer valproate (VPA) causes perturbation of energy metabolism, which is implicated in both the therapeutic mechanism of action of the drug as well as drug toxicity. To gain insight into these mechanisms, we determined the effects of VPA on energy metabolism in yeast. The study seeks to investigate factors associated with HIV infection among adolescents and young adults registered in the Counseling and Testing Center (CTC) of Feira de Santana, Bahia. An analytical study with a cross-sectional design was conducted using data from the CTC Information System in the period from 2007 to 2011. Information on 3,768 individuals were studied and the proportional difference was checked using the Pearson chi-squared test and stratified analysis by Prevalence Rate (PR) with confidence intervals of 95%, considering the serological status as the outcome.
