Leather manufacturing is the process of converting raw animal hides or skins into finished leather. The complex industrial procedures result in a tanning effluent composed of chemical compounds with potentially hazardous impacts on humans and ecosystems. In this study, the functionalization of three vegetable oils (grape, hemp, and linseed) with maleic anhydride was carried out either by conventional heating or microwave activation to obtain products that, after further reactions, can enhance the water dispersion of oils for industrial applications. To identify the most abundant derivatives formed, trans-3-octene, methyl oleate, and ethyl linoleate were reacted as reference systems.

Here the sonophotocatalytic degradation of DC was carried out using micrometric TiO (both pristine and Ag-decorated), UV-A irradiation and 20 kHz pulsed ultrasound. Sonophotocatalytic tests were compared with photolysis, sonolysis, sonophotolysis, sonocatalysis and photocatalysis data performed in the same conditions.
