Objective: To describe the antiobesity drug-prescribing patterns of US physicians over the past decade.

Methods: Data for adult patients were obtained from the National Ambulatory Medical Care Survey and the National Hospital Ambulatory Medical Care Survey. Obesity was identified using ICD-9 codes, BMI values, and a chronic-obesity-condition variable.

Health risk assessment of metals in food crops and related soils amended with biogas slurry in Taihu Basin: perspective from field experiment.

A health risk assessment of food crops contaminated with heavy metals (Cu, Zn, Pb, As, Cd, and Cr) through the intake of cereals and vegetables grown from biogas slurry irrigated sites was conducted. In the vegetable soils and cereal soils, the concentrations of Zn, Pb, and Cd were far higher than Chinese agricultural standards. The pollution conditions of the aforementioned heavy metals varied with the seasons.

Prognostic Value of Circulating Tumor Cells in Ovarian Cancer: A Meta-Analysis.

Background: The prognostic value of circulating tumor cells (CTCs) in ovarian cancer has been investigated in previous studies, but the results are controversial. Therefore we performed a meta-analysis to systematically review these data and evaluate the value of CTCs in ovarian cancer.

Metabolic fate analysis of Huang-Lian-Jie-Du Decoction in rat urine and feces by LC-IT-MS combining with LC-FT-ICR-MS: a feasible strategy for the metabolism study of Chinese medical formula.

1. Huang-Lian-Jie-Du Decoction (HLJDD) is widely used for the treatment of hypertension, diabetes, inflammation and neural system diseases in clinic. In the present study, the comprehensive metabolic profile of HLJDD was demonstrated reliably and rapidly followed by the metabolic pathway analysis of six typical pure compounds (four alkaloids, one flavonoid and one iridoid) in HLJDD using LC-IT-MS combined with high resolution LC-FT-ICR-MS.

Prognostic value of plasma galectin-3 levels in patients with coronary heart disease and chronic heart failure.

In this study, we evaluated the prognostic value of plasma galectin-3 levels in patients with coronary heart disease (CHD) and chronic heart failure (HF) and selected 261 CHD patients who were consecutively admitted to our hospital. The enrolled chronic HF patients included HF patients with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) and reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF). Patients without HF served as the control group.

[Huanglian jiedu decoction active fraction protects ipsilateral thalamus injury in MCAO rats through regulating astrocytes].

Objective: To observe the protective effects of the Huanglian Jiedu decoction aqueous extract and its active fraction, which consists of total alkaloids, total flavonoids and total iridoid, on the thalamus of cerebral ischemia in rats.

Method: The rat model of middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) was chosen. Male SD rats were randomly divided into sham-operation group, model group, aqueous extract group (800 mg x kg(-1)), total alkaloids group(44 mg x kg(-1)), total flavonoids group (50 mg x kg(-1)) and the total iridoid group (80 mg x kg(-1)).

Cathepsin B promotes colorectal tumorigenesis, cell invasion, and metastasis.

Cathepsin B is a cysteine proteinase that primarily functions as an endopeptidase within endolysosomal compartments in normal cells. However, during tumoral expansion, the regulation of cathepsin B can be altered at multiple levels, thereby resulting in its overexpression and export outside of the cell. This may suggest a possible role of cathepsin B in alterations leading to cancer progression.

Cinobufacino injection is purified from water extraction of the skin of Bufo bufo gargarizans, which has been widely used for various cancers in clinic with significant anti-tumor effects. Bufadienolides were regarded as the main active constituents of cinobufacino injection in previous reports. In present study, 6 bufadienolides were isolated and purified from Cinobufacino injection.

Clinical observation on hearing conditions of centenarians in northern district of China.

Conclusion: The hearing conditions of the centenarians were quite poor as regards hearing thresholds and speech detection ability.

Objective: To investigate hearing conditions of centenarians.

Methods: A total of 54 centenarians in Rizhao and Linyi Districts in Shandong Province were investigated to assess hearing conditions of centenerians comprehensively by questionnaire investigation, pure-tone audiometry, acoustic immitance, intelligence evaluation, and speech detection scores.

The accumulation of heavy metals in different soils resulting from irrigation with biogas slurry obtained from Taihu basin may create a potential public health risk. We quantified the concentration of heavy metals (Zn, Pb, Cu, Cr, As, and Cd.) in soils.

To identify the active components in Bufo melanostictus Schneider and clarify the difference between fresh and dried Venenum Bufonis, a UPLC-Orbitrap MS method has been established. The separation was performed with gradient elution of acetonitrile and water (with 0.1% formic acid) as mobile phase.

In order to clarify the metabolism pathways of scandoside methyl ester, the analysis of metabolites profiling in four kinds of liver microsomes was performed by using an ultra-performance liquid chromatography/ electrospray-tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-ESI-MS). The data obtained from the 0 h-incubation and the 2 h-incubation were compared and analyzed. After incubation, 5 metabolites of scandoside methyl ester were found in rat, Beagles, rhesus monkey and human liver microsome.

[Study on action mechanism of adjuvant therapeutic effect compound Ejiao slurry in treating cancers based on network pharmacology].

Recently, compound Ejiao slurry (FFEJJ) had been applied to treat cancer patients in clinic, with obvious curative effect. In this study, data and literatures were collected from the TCM chemical component database to establish the chemical component database of FFEJJ. Afterwards, MetaDrug software was used to predict the targets of FFEJJ and obtain the compound-target network.

Contamination and risk assessment of metals in road-deposited sediments in a medium-sized city of China.

Road-deposited sediment (RDS) is a valuable environmental medium for characterizing contamination of metals in urban areas and the associated risks to human health. A total of 62 RDS samples were collected for metal test in four urban areas in a medium size city in eastern China. The areas that represented different land uses consisted of intense traffic area (ITA), commercial area (CA), residential area (RA), and riverside park area (RPA).

Growth mechanism and magnetic properties of monodisperse L1(0)-Co(Fe)Pt@C core-shell nanoparticles by one-step solid-phase synthesis.

In this report, we present a novel one-step solid-phase reaction method for the synthesis of L10-CoPt@C core-shell nanoparticles (NPs) using organic metal precursors without surfactants. The obtained CoPt@C NPs have a good face-centered tetragonal single crystal structure and regular shape. The mean size of CoPt is 14 nm with a uniform carbon shell.

In this study, we make a feasible metabolism investigation of five protoberberine alkaloids (PBAs) applied in zebrafish model for the first time, including berberine (BBR), palmatine (PAL), jatrorrhizine (JAT), coptisine (COP) and epiberberine (EBBR).

Species-related difference between limonin and obacunone among five liver microsomes and zebrafish using ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography coupled with a LTQ-Orbitrap mass spectrometer.

Rationale: Limonin and obacunone are two major limonoids distributed in the Rutaceae and Meliaceae families. Their defined anti-tumor activity is closely connected with the furan ring and the multi-carbonyls in their structures. In vivo and in vitro biotransformations may influence their structures and further change their effects.

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Huang-Lian-Jie-Du-Decotion (HLJDD), an important traditional Chinese medicine formula, has been used for various diseases in clinical practice, and thus has high potential to induce cytochrome P450 (CYP) isoenzymes/P-glycoprotein (P-gp) mediated herb-drug interactions (HDIs) with other co-administered drugs. The purpose of this study was to investigate the in vitro effects of multiple extracts including aqueous extracts, total flavonoids, iridoids, alkaloids from HLJDD on the activities of CYPs in rats (CYP1A2, CYP2C6, CYP2D2, CYP2E1 and CYP3A1) and P-gp, and then to predict potential interactions with co-administered drugs.

Materials And Methods: The effects of the four extracts from HLJDD on the CYPs activity were evaluated in rat liver microsomes incubation system, and then determined by LC-MS/MS-based CYPs probe substrate assay.

5,10,15,20-Tetrakis(4-carboxyl pheyl)-porphyrin (H2TCPP) functionalized chain-like Co3O4 nanoparticles (NPs) were prepared by a facile two-step method. The H2TCPP-Co3O4 nanocomposites were demonstrated to display enhanced peroxidase-like activity than that of pure Co3O4 nanoparticles without modification with H2TCPP molecules, catalyzing oxidation of peroxidase substrate 3,3',5,5'-tetramethyl-benzidine (TMB) in the presence of H2O2 to produce a blue color reaction. Furthermore, H2TCPP-Co3O4 nanocomposites showed typical Michaelis-Menten kinetics and higher affinity to H2O2 and TMB than that of pure Co3O4 NPs alone.

[Identification of bufadienolides profiling in cinobufacino by HPLC-DAD-FT-ICR-MS method].

Cinobufacino injection is a significant anti-tumor medicine for the treatment of various tumors in clinic, which was made from water extraction of the skin of Bufo bufo gargarizans. In present paper, HPLC-DAD-FT-ICR-MS method was used to identify the major bufadienolides in cinobufacino for the first time. Solid-phase extraction with dichloromethane and silica was used to enrich the total bufadienolides in cinobufacino.

[LC-FT-ICR-MS analysis of the prototypes and metabolites in rat plasma after administration of huang-lian-jie-du decoction].

To obtain chemical constituent information of rat plasma after oral administration of Huang-Lian-Jie-Du Decoction (HLJDD), a LC-FT-ICR-MS method has been established, and both positive and negative ions scan modes were include in the analysis. By comparing their retention time, high resolution mass data of HLJDD extracts, blank plasma and dosed plasma, 38 constituents, including 22 prototype compounds and 16 metabolites, were detected in rat plasma after oral administration of HLJDD. In the 22 prototype compounds, 16 constituents were determined unambiguously by comparing with references.
