Humans are exposed to various chemical elements that have been associated with the development and progression of diseases such as coronary artery disease (CAD). Unlike previous research, we employed a multi-element approach to investigate CAD patients and those with comorbid conditions such as diabetes (CAD-DM2), high blood pressure (CAD-HBP), or high blood lipids (CAD-HBL). Plasma concentrations of 21 elements, including lithium (Li), boron (B), aluminum (Al), calcium (Ca), titanium (Ti), vanadium (V), chromium (Cr), manganese (Mn), iron (Fe), cobalt (Co), nickel (Ni), copper (Cu), zinc (Zn), arsenic (As), selenium (Se), strontium (Sr), cadmium (Cd), tin (Sn), stibium (Sb), barium (Ba), and lead (Pb), were measured in CAD patients (n = 201) and healthy subjects (n = 110) using inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS).

Background: Percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) is commonly chosen for long-term enteral nutrition support. However, common complications of PEG include wound infection, leakage, obstruction, bleeding, dislodgement, pneumonia, peritonitis, and more. The anticipation of these complications by both patients and their family caregivers underscores the essential requirement of ongoing technical guidance for the daily care of PEG and the adoption of preventative strategies.

Article Synopsis
  • Tripterygium glycoside tablets (TGTs) are commonly used drugs but suffer from inconsistent effectiveness and significant toxic side effects, highlighting the need for better quality control standards.
  • The study aimed to establish a quality evaluation method for TGTs by analyzing samples from various manufacturers using advanced techniques like UHPLC and assessing their pharmacological activities.
  • The analysis of 24 batches of TGTs revealed notable chemical composition differences, especially in samples from one manufacturer that lacked key compounds; most samples showed varying anti-inflammatory and antitumor activities, suggesting quality variability affects efficacy.

Bleeding is a major adverse event during clopidogrel treatment in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS). However, the potential mechanism affecting bleeding among individuals is unclear. Herein, we investigated the involvement of CYP2C19*2 and CYP2C19*3, as well as 10 miRNA polymorphisms, in bleeding in Chinese patients with ACS during the first year of clopidogrel treatment.

In the present study, the concentrations of lead (Pb), cadmium (Cd), arsenic (As), mercury (Hg), and copper (Cu) in 2245 batches of Chinese herbal medicines (CHMs) were measured using inductively coupled plasma-mass spectroscopy (ICP-MS). We developed a risk assessment strategy that assessed the heavy metal-associated health risk of CHMs based on our large dataset. Using a combination of the mean and 95th percentile (P95) values of the chronic daily intake (CDI), hazard quotient (HQ), hazard index (HI), and lifetime cancer risk (CR), the health risks of the average exposure population and the high exposure population were estimated, respectively.

Clopidogrel therapy reduces the occurrence of major vascular events in acute coronary syndrome (ACS) patients, but treatment efficacy is variable. The present study aims to determine the mechanisms that underlie associations between certain miRNA polymorphisms and clinical outcomes of clopidogrel therapy. Our study focused on 9 miRNA single nucleotide polymorphisms in addition to and .

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Plants of genus Celastrus (Celastraceae) have been widely used in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and Indian medicine to treat cognitive dysfunction, epilepsy, insomnia, rheumatism, gout, and dyspepsia for thousands of years.

Aim Of Study: We critically summarized the current evidence on the botanic characterization and distribution, ethnopharmacology, secondary metabolites, pharmacological activities, qualitative and quantitative analysis, and toxicology of Celastrus species to provide perspectives for developing more attractive pharmaceuticals of plant origin.

Materials And Methods: The relevant information on Celastrus species was gathered from worldwide accepted scientific databases via electronic search (Web of Science, SciFinder, PubMed, Elsevier, SpringerLink, Wiley Online, China Knowledge Resource Integrated, and Google Scholar).

The extracellular electron transfer (EET) mechanism of an isolated Gram-positive Bacillus megaterium strain (LLD-1), identified by 16S rRNA gene sequencing and physiological analysis, was investigated in the present study. The electrochemical activity of strain LLD-1 was confirmed by electrochemical E-t and amperometric I-t tests. Flavins in culture suspension from strain LLD-1 were further proved to be able to act as electron shuttles, strengthening the electron transfer from LLD-1 to the electrode.

Carboxylesterase 1 (CES1) hydrolyzes the prodrug clopidogrel to an inactive carboxylic acid metabolite. The effects of CES1 S75N (rs2307240,C>T) on clopidogrel response among 851 acute coronary syndrome patients who came from the north, central and south of China were studied. The occurrence ratios of each endpoint in the CC group were significantly higher than in the CT + TT group for cerebrovascular events (14% vs 4.

Dual antiplatelet therapy is the gold standard for the clinical treatment of coronary artery disease, especially for acute coronary syndromes patients. However, a substantial number of patients do not respond to clopidogrel despite a standardized dosage regimen, and this is directly associated with poor prognosis. Genetic polymorphisms may be one of the most important factors that contribute to this phenomenon.

Article Synopsis
  • Extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) are important for the formation and survival of bacterial bio-aggregates, specifically in Shewanella oneidensis MR-1.
  • Five extraction methods were tested, with heating at 40°C and EDTA treatment being the most effective, producing good EPS yields while minimizing damage to bacterial cells.
  • The analyses showed that heating at 40°C yielded 7.12 mg of proteins and 1.60 mg of polysaccharides per gram of dry cell, while EDTA provided slightly lower yields but resulted in minimal cell lysis.

Background: Hypertension is the most common chronic disease and the calcium channel antagonist is the most popularly used antihypertensive drug in Chinese patients. Azelnidipine is a third generation and long-acting dihydropyridine calcium channel antagonist. A series of research has demonstrated that azelnidipine produced an effective antihypertensive effect in patients with essential hypertension.

Clopidogrel has been shown to improve endothelial function in vitro and in patients with coronary artery disease. However, it remains unclear whether such an effect of clopidogrel is associated with CYP2C19 polymorphisms that determine the antiplatelet effect of clopidogrel. After genotyping, 12 healthy participants were enrolled in the study.

Aim: Asymmetric dimethylarginine (ADMA) is a nitric oxide synthase (NOS) inhibitor that decreases NO production and promotes the development of cardiovascular diseases. Alanine-glyoxylate aminotransferase 2 (AGXT2) plays an important role in ADMA metabolism. This study was designed to explore the association of the AGXT2 V140I (rs37369 G>A) polymorphism with risk for coronary heart disease (CHD) in a Chinese population.

Nurse shifting has long been a headache for nurse management. The traditional paper-and pencil shifting is time consuming and inefficient due to the huge work shift data and other considerable factors, such as overlap shifting, overtime shifting or even overleap shifting. In order to focus on the well-being of the patients and improve the quality and efficiency of nursing care, a computerized nurse shifting information system is essential.

The purpose of this study was to characterize the functional consequences of the 393T>C polymorphism of the GNAS1 gene in vivo. PCR-RFLP assays were used to identify GNAS1 and beta 1-adrenoceptor genotypes. The heart rate (HR), blood pressure, left ventricular fractional shortening (LVFS), and left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) were determined in different genotypes through a modified dobutamine stress echocardiography protocol.
