Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to create a recombinase-aided isothermal amplification (RAA) assay for detecting a specific target gene, the 18S rRNA, related to oocysts.
  • Fluorescent probes and primer sequences were designed, and the assay was optimized to measure sensitivity and specificity by testing various concentrations of genomic DNA from oocysts and other samples.
  • The successful RAA assay amplified the target gene in 20 minutes with high sensitivity (down to one oocyst/μL) and specificity against non-target samples.

To know the contamination status of and in drinking water of Jiangsu Province, so as to provide the evidence for producing hygiene and safety drinking water. A total of 28 water plants of 13 cities in Jiangsu Province were selected, and the source water (10 L), chlorinated water (100 L) and tap water (100 L) were collected separately in each site. The water samples were then treated by filtration, washing, centrifuging concentration, immune magnetic separation, and immunofluorescent assay, to detect the numbers of cysts and oocysts.
