Purpose: This study utilizes a survival model and clinical data with various radiation doses from prospective trials to determine radiation dose-response parameters, such as radiosensitivity, and identify single-nucleotide-polymorphism (SNP) biomarkers that can potentially predict the dose response and guide personalized radiotherapy.

Methods: The study included 92 consecutive stage-III NSCLC patients with doses varying from 60 to 91Gy. Logistic regression analysis of survival varying with SNP genotype and radiation dose was used to screen candidates for dose-response analysis.

A greenhouse pot experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi Claroideoglomus etunicatum (CE), Rhizophagus intraradices (RI), Funneliformis mosseae (FM) and Glomus versiforme (GV) on AM colonization rate, biomass, mineral nutrient uptake, C: N: P ratios and Na and Cl- concentrations of reeds (Phragmites australis) grown in saline and non-saline wetland soils. The aim was to provide a technical basis for the ecological revegetation and salinity restoration of wetland ecosystem. The results indicated that symbiotic associations were successfully established between the four isolates and reeds grown in the two types of wetland soils.

Treatment of inoperable, locally advanced non-small cell lung cancer (LA-NSCLC) is challenging and requires a multidisciplinary approach considering both local therapy and systemic therapy. Based on the results from several phase III studies and 2 meta-analyses, the use of concomitant chemoradiation therapy (ChRT) could significantly improve overall survival and is considered the standard of care in LA-NSCLC with good performance status. Currently, no evidence has shown a significant survival benefit of third-generation regimens applied in combination with ChRT compared with second-generation regimens.

In this study, the suspended particulate matter (SPM) of the Yellow River (Huanghe) was collected biweekly at the outlet and analyzed for particulate trace element contents. The seasonal variations of the trace elements were primarily controlled by hydrological processes, which determined different sources of the SPM. Moreover, As, Co, Cr, and Ni primarily originated from lithogenic sources, whereas Cd, Cu, Pb and Zn were influenced by anthropogenic activities.

Small cell lung cancer (SCLC) is one of the most aggressive types of cancer, yet the pathologic mechanisms underlying its devastating clinical outcome remain elusive. In this report, we surveyed 924 miRNA (miR) for their expressions in the formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded specimens from 42 patients with SCLC, and found that the downregulated miR-886-3p is closely correlated with the shorter survival of SCLC. Gold nanoparticles exhibit the optical properties of localized surface plamon resonance (LSPR) and are widely applied to the biosensors. The application of gold nanoparticles to the determination of anticancer drug 6-thioguanine (6-TG) was discussed. Diagnostic and therapeutic biomarkers useful for esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) have the ability to increase the long term survival of cancer patients. A metabolomics study, using plasma from four groups including ESCC patients before, during, and after chemoradiotherapy (CRT) and healthy controls, was originally carried out by LC-MS to determine global alterations in the metabolic profiles and find biomarkers potentially applicable to diagnosis and monitoring treatment effects. It is worth pointing out that a clear clustering and separation of metabolic data from the four groups was observed, which indicated that disease status and treatment intervention resulted in specific metabolic perturbations in the patients.
