Tele-Manipulative Neuro-Registration in Robot assisted Neurosurgery.

This paper deals with neuro-registration using tele-manipulation (Master-Slave Manipulation) to facilitate tele-surgery and enhance the overall accuracy and reach of the robot-assisted neurosurgery. Accurate Neuro-registration is important as the success of the surgical procedure highly depends on it. A 6-degree-of-freedom Parallel Kinematic Mechanism (6D-PKM) master-slave robot in tele-manipulation mode is utilized for both neuro-registration and neurosurgery.

Associate Psychological Practitioners (APPs) in primary care: modelling the impact.

Background: The 'Associate Psychological Practitioner' (APP) is an innovative new role that expands the psychological workforce and addresses the rising demand for mental health services in England, yet the impact of this role on NHS workforce capacity has yet to be modelled.

Aim: We modelled the impact of the APP role in Primary Care in terms of additional capacity to provide mental health care and the impact on General Practitioner (GP) capacity within the sector.

Method: Workforce experts of the NHS Workforce Repository and Planning Tool (WRaPT) team used a modelling tool to determine future state scenarios of APPs working across all Primary Care Networks (PCNs) within a region and the associated change on the baseline workforce.

The Resilience Hub approach for addressing mental health of health and social care workers during the COVID-19 pandemic: a mixed-methods evaluation.

Background: Resilience Hubs provide mental health screening, facilitation of access and direct provision of psychosocial support for health and social care keyworkers in England affected by the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic.

Aim: To explore implementation of the Hubs, including characteristics of staff using the services, support accessed, costing data and a range of stakeholder perspectives on the barriers and enablers to Hub use and implementation of staff well-being support within the context of the pandemic.

Design: Mixed-methods evaluation.

On the nature of initial solvation in bulk polar liquids: Gaussian or exponential?

Measurement of time evolution of fluorescence of a probe solute has been a quintessential technique to quantify how dipolar solvent molecules dynamically minimize the free energy of an electronically excited probe. During such solvation dynamics in bulk liquids, a substantial part of relaxation was shown to complete within sub-100 fs from time-gated fluorescence measurements, as also predicted by molecular dynamics simulation studies. However, equivalent quantification of solvation timescales by femtosecond pump-probe and broadband fluorescence measurements revealed an exponential nature of this initial relaxation having quite different timescales.

Clinicians' perspectives on retraumatisation during trauma-focused interventions for post-traumatic stress disorder: A survey of UK mental health professionals.

Concerns regarding retraumatisation have been identified as a barrier to delivering trauma-focused therapy for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). We explored clinicians' understanding of what constitutes potential signs of retraumatisation (PSoR), reported incidences of witnessing retraumatisation, use of (and confidence in) therapies for PTSD, fear of retraumatisation during therapy for PTSD, and whether having witnessed retraumatisation was associated with these variables. We surveyed 348 clinicians.

Elucidating photocycle in large Stokes shift red fluorescent proteins: Focus on mKeima.

Large Stokes shift red fluorescent proteins (LSS-RFPs) are genetically encoded and exhibit a significant difference of a few hundreds of nanometers between their excitation and emission peak maxima (i.e., the Stokes shift).

A service mapping exercise of four health and social care staff mental health and wellbeing services, Resilience Hubs, to describe health service provision and interventions.

Background: NHS England funded 40 Mental Health and Wellbeing Hubs to support health and social care staff affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. We aimed to document variations in how national guidance was adapted to the local contexts of four Hubs in the North of England.

Methods: We used a modified version of Price's (2019) service mapping methodology.

Trauma-focused therapy in early psychosis: results of a feasibility randomized controlled trial of EMDR for psychosis (EMDRp) in early intervention settings.

Background: Trauma is prevalent amongst early psychosis patients and associated with adverse outcomes. Past trials of trauma-focused therapy have focused on chronic patients with psychosis/schizophrenia and comorbid Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). We aimed to determine the feasibility of a large-scale randomized controlled trial (RCT) of an Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing for psychosis (EMDRp) intervention for early psychosis service users.

Implementing psychological support for health and social care staff affected by the COVID-19 pandemic: a qualitative exploration of staff well-being hubs ('Resilience Hubs') using normalisation process theory.

Objectives: Evaluate the implementation of Hubs providing access to psychological support for health and social care keyworkers affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Design: Qualitative interviews informed by normalisation process theory to understand how the Hub model became embedded into normal practice, and factors that disrupted normalisation of this approach.

Separating Vibrational Coherences in Ground/Excited Electronic States of Solvent/Solute Following Non-Resonant/Resonant Impulsive Excitation.

In a quest to track down the origin of coherent vibrational motions observed in femtosecond pump-probe transients, whether they arise from ground/excited electronic state of solute or are contributed by the solvent, we demonstrate a method for extricating vibrations under resonant and non-resonant impulsive excitations using a diatomic solute in condensed phase (iodine in carbon tetrachloride) with aid of spectral dispersion of the chirped broadband probe. Most importantly, we show how a sum over intensities for a select region of detection wavelengths and Fourier transform of data over select temporal window untwine contributions from vibrational modes of different origins. Thus, in a single pump-probe experiment, vibrational features specific to solute as well as solvent are disentangled that are otherwise spectrally overlapping and are non-separable in conventional (spontaneous/stimulated) Raman spectroscopy employing narrowband excitation.

Unveiling the Role of Hidden Isomers in Large Stokes Shift in mKeima: Harnessing pH-Sensitive Dual-Emission in Bioimaging.

Elucidating the origin of large Stokes shift (LSS) in certain fluorescent proteins absorbing in blue/blue-green and emitting in red/far-red has been quite illusive. Using a combination of spectroscopic measurements, corroborated by theoretical calculations, the presence of four distinct forms of the chromophore of the red fluorescent protein mKeima is confirmed, two of which are found to be emissive: a feeble bluish-green fluorescence (∼520 nm), which is enhanced appreciably in a low pH or deuterated medium but significantly at cryogenic temperatures, and a strong emission in red (∼615 nm). Using femtosecond transient absorption spectroscopy, the trans-protonated form is found to isomerize within hundreds of femtoseconds to the cis-protonated form, which further yields the cis-deprotonated form within picoseconds followed by structural reorganization of the local environment of the chromophore.

What lies in-between: C3 glomerulopathy with non-hemolytic renal microangiopathy and an ultra-rare C3 variant.

We report a 36-year-old female with mixed nephritic-nephrotic syndrome and recurrent pancreatitis. Kidney biopsy showed a crescentic membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis with dominant C3 staining on immunofluorescence (IF) but only scant deposits on electron microscopy (EM) and instead, evidence of severe acute and chronic microangiopathy - endothelial swelling, sub-endothelial fluff, and segmental basement membrane remodeling. Her serum C3 was normal, Factor Ba, and serum Membrane attack complex (sMAC) levels were elevated, and Properdin was low.

Electron-Phonon Coupling Mediated Self-Trapped-Exciton Emission and Internal Quantum Confinement in Highly Luminescent Zero-Dimensional (Guanidinium)MnX (X = Cl and Br).

We report a large Stokes shift and broad emission band in a Mn-based organic-inorganic hybrid halide, (Guanidinium)MnBr [GuMBr], consisting of trimeric units of distorted MnBr octahedra representing a zero-dimensional compound with a liquid like crystalline lattice. Analysis of the photoluminescence (PL) line width and Raman spectra reveals the effects of electron-phonon coupling, suggestive of the formation of Frenkel-like bound excitons. These bound excitons, regarded as the self-trapped excitons (STEs), account for the large Stokes shift and broad emission band.

Can a new role, the (Trainee) Associate Psychological Practitioner (T/APP), add value in General Practice? Results from the pilot year evaluation.

Background: The deployment of (Trainee) Associate Psychological Practitioners (T/APPs) to deliver brief psychological interventions focusing on preventing mental health deterioration and promoting emotional wellbeing in General Practice settings is a novel development in the North West of England. As the need and demand for psychological practitioners increases, new workforce supply routes are required to meet this growth.

Aims: To evaluate the clinical impact and efficacy of the mental health prevention and promotion service, provided by the T/APPs and the acceptability of the role from the perspective of the workforce and the role to T/APPs, patients and services.

A Revisit on Impulsive Stimulated Raman Spectroscopy: Importance of Spectral Dispersion of Chirped Broadband Probe.

The usefulness of a chirped broadband probe and spectral dispersion to obtain Raman spectra under nonresonant/resonant impulsive excitation is revisited. A general methodology is presented that inherently takes care of phasing the time-domain low-frequency oscillations without probe pulse compression and retrieves the absolute phase of the oscillations. As test beds, neat solvents (CCl, CHCl, and CHCl) are used.

The effectiveness of psychological support interventions for those exposed to mass infectious disease outbreaks: a systematic review.

Background: Mass outbreaks such as pandemics are associated with mental health problems requiring effective psychological interventions. Although several forms of psychological interventions may be advocated or used, some may lack strong evidence of efficacy and some may not have been evaluated in mass infectious disease outbreaks. Effect of iodinated contrast material on post-operative eGFR when administered during renal mass ablation.

Objective: To evaluate the effect of intravenous iodinated contrast on estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) when administered immediately after thermal ablation of clinically localized T1a (cT1a) renal cell carcinoma (RCC).

Methods: This HIPAA-compliant, dual-center retrospective study was performed under a waiver of informed consent. Three hundred forty-two consecutive patients with cT1a biopsy-proven RCC were treated with percutaneous ablation between January 2010 and December 2017.

Long-Term Outcomes and Prognostic Factors in Kidney Transplant Recipients with Polycystic Kidney Disease.

Background: Polycystic kidney disease (PKD) accounts for approximately 15% of kidney transplants, but long-term outcomes in patients with PKD who have received a kidney transplant are not well understood.

Methods: In primary recipients of kidney transplants at our center (1994-2014), we compared outcomes of underlying PKD (=619) with other native diseases (non-PKD, =4312). Potential factors influencing outcomes in PKD were evaluated using Cox proportional-hazards regression and a rigorous multivariable model.

Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing therapy for psychosis (EMDRp): Protocol of a feasibility randomized controlled trial with early intervention service users.

Aim: Traumatic events are involved in the development and maintenance of psychotic symptoms. There are few trials exploring trauma-focused treatments as interventions for psychotic symptoms, especially in individuals with early psychosis. This trial will evaluate the feasibility and acceptability of conducting a definitive trial of Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing for psychosis (EMDRp) in people with early psychosis.

A survey of psychological practitioner workplace well-being.

The well-being of the psychological workforce is an area of concern. However, it has been sparsely studied in a holistic manner encompassing workplace well-being as well as burnout. This study reports a survey of 1,678 psychological practitioners accessed through professional networks.

Cost-effectiveness of psychological treatments for post-traumatic stress disorder in adults.

Background: Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a severe and disabling condition that may lead to functional impairment and reduced productivity. Psychological interventions have been shown to be effective in its management. The objective of this study was to assess the cost-effectiveness of a range of interventions for adults with PTSD.

Urinary monocyte chemoattractant protein 1 associated with calcium oxalate crystallization in patients with primary hyperoxaluria.

Background: Patients with primary hyperoxaluria (PH) often develop kidney stones and chronic kidney disease. Noninvasive urine markers reflective of active kidney injury could be useful to gauge the effectiveness of ongoing treatments.

Methods: A panel of biomarkers that reflect different nephron sites and potential mechanisms of injury (clusterin, neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL), 8-isoprostane (8IP), monocyte-chemoattractant protein 1(MCP-1), liver-type fatty acid binding protein (L-FABP), heart-type fatty acid binding protein (H-FABP), and osteopontin (OPN)) were measured in 114 urine specimens from 30 PH patients over multiple visits.
