Base excision repair (BER) is a key pathway for maintaining genomic stability. A key enzyme in the BER pathway is DNA polymerase beta (polbeta). It has been shown that more than 11% of breast, bladder, esophageal, colon, and gastric cancer samples studied so far exhibit polbeta mutation.

Study Design: Cross-sectional analysis of multistate ambulatory surgery and hospital databases.
Methods: Ambulatory adult UPPP cases were extracted from the State Ambulatory Surgery Databases for New York, Florida, Iowa, and California for 2010.
Mis-sense mutations in the α-subunit of the G-protein, Gsα, cause fibrous dysplasia of bone/McCune-Albright syndrome. The biochemical outcome of these mutations is constitutively active Gsα and increased levels of cAMP. The aim of this study was to develop an assay system that would allow the identification of small molecule inhibitors specific for the mutant Gsα protein, the so-called gsp oncogene.

To identify the role of miRNA in neuronal differentiation, SH-SY5Y and IMR-32 cells were treated with dopamine cocktail and retinoic acid to induce differentiation. Detection of miRNAs in differentiated cells revealed that expression of many miRNAs was altered significantly.

Methods: All cases of ESS in 2010 were extracted from the state ambulatory surgery databases for New York, North Carolina, Florida, Iowa, and California. Current Procedural Terminology codes for individual sinusotomies and IG and International Classification of Diseases codes along with insurance and regional data were analyzed to determine factors that were associated with the use of IG during ESS.
Background: A large percentage of patients with aspirin exacerbated respiratory disease (AERD) report the development of alcohol-induced respiratory reactions, but the true prevalence of respiratory reactions caused by alcoholic beverages in these patients was not known.
Objective: We sought to evaluate the incidence and characteristics of alcohol-induced respiratory reactions in patients with AERD.
Methods: A questionnaire designed to assess alcohol-induced respiratory symptoms was administered to patients at Brigham and Women's Hospital and Scripps Clinic.
In a recent work (Basu et al., in EPL 105:28007, 2014) it was pointed out that the link-weight distribution of microRNA co-target network of a wide class of species are universal up to scaling. The number cell types, widely accepted as a measure of complexity, turns out to be proportional to these scale-factor.

HYPK was characterized earlier as an intrinsically unstructured protein having chaperone-like activity in vitro and in vivo. HYPK has the ability of reducing rate of aggregate formation and subsequent toxicity caused by mutant Huntingtin.

Calcium and phosphorus homeostasis is achieved by interplay among hormones, including 1,25(OH)2D3 (1,25D), parathyroid hormone, and fibroblast growth factor 23 (FGF23), and their interactions with other proteins. For example, mutations in dentin matrix protein 1 (DMP-1) result in increased FGF23 and hypophosphatemic rickets. 1,25D is reported to modulate FGF23; thus, we hypothesized that 1,25D may be involved in modulating DMP-1 in an intermediary step.

Background: Nasal polyps occur in a significant fraction of patients with chronic rhinosinusitis. However, patterns of medical management in nasal polyp cases are unknown. We sought to determine actual national estimates and contemporary prescribing patterns for ambulatory care visits with a diagnosis of nasal polyposis (NP).

This study was undertaken to delineate possible down-stream signaling pathways that are involved in this process. Intact IGFBP-3 and its N-terminal 1-97 fragments with or without a signal pro-peptide was fused to YFP and expressed in PC-3 human prostate cancer cells.

Huntingtin (Htt), a ubiquitously expressed protein, when mutated, forms toxic intracellular aggregates - the hallmark of Huntington's disease (HD). We observed an elevated expression of Grb2 in neuronal cells in animal and cell models of HD.

Importance: The care of patients with head and neck cancer is labor and cost intensive. Although several studies have focused on clinical outcomes with regionalization of care of such patients, it remains uncertain if and where such concentrations of care are occurring. A better understanding of how care is distributed will improve our understanding of the financial and educational impact of compacting treatment of these patients.

Rarely, elevated serum FGF23 levels are found in association with mosaic cutaneous disorders that affect large proportions of the skin and appear in patterns corresponding to the migration of ectodermal progenitors. The cause and source of elevated serum FGF23 is unknown.

Non-healing foot ulcers in diabetes may be due to peripheral neuropathy and/or vasculopathy. Non-healing occurs following a trivial trauma due to loss of local immunity and increased infection by bacteria and fungus.

Mutation in huntingtin (HTT) gene causes Huntington's disease (HD). Expression of many micro RNAs is known to alter in cell, animal models and brains of HD patients, but their cellular effects are not known. Here, we show that expression of microRNA-124 (miR-124) is down regulated in HD striatal mutant STHdh(Q111)/Hdh(Q111) cells, a cell model of HD compared to STHdh(Q7)/Hdh(Q7) cells.
