Laparo-endoscopic hernia surgery is recommended by various international bodies. However, its uptake by general surgeon is low. We aim to assess the impact of Three Dimensional (3D) endovision system in learning laparoscopic transabdominal preperitoneal (TAPP) repair of groin hernia and transferability of skills acquired from 3D to the Two Dimensional (2D) environment.

Role of [18F]FDG-PET/CT in Evaluation of Tumor Response to Chemoradiation Therapy for Advanced Colorectal Cancer.

Objectives: The objective is to evaluate the efficacy of F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography (F-FDG-PET) computed tomography (CT) in the evaluation of tumor response to preoperative/palliative chemoradiotherapy (CRT) for advanced colorectal cancer; including metastatic cancer at primary presentation and recurrent cancers with local and/or distant metastasis.

Materials And Methods: Fifty patients with advanced rectal cancer underwent two point imaging with 18 FDG PET-CT before and after 3 weeks of completion of preoperative/palliative CRT in between 2016 and 2022. Patients with locally recurrent cancer also underwent radical surgery.

Minimally invasive thymectomy for patients with thymoma: surgical, oncological and neurological outcomes.

Background: Traditionally, sternotomy has been the gold standard approach for the treatment of thymomas. heterocyclic carbene (NHC) self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) on gold have received considerable attention, but little is known about the lateral interactions between neighboring NHC molecules, their stability when subjected to aggressive oxidizing/reducing conditions, and their interactions with solution ions, all of which are essential for their use in a wide range of applications. To address these deficiencies, we present a comprehensive investigation of two different ferrocene (Fc)-terminated NHC SAMs with different chain lengths and linking groups. Pure monolayers of Fc-terminated NHCs display only a single, symmetrical pair of redox peaks, implying the formation of a homogeneous SAM structure with uniformly distributed Fc/Fc redox centers.

Background: Laparoscopic Heller's myotomy (LHM) is an established treatment for achalasia cardia. Anti-reflux procedures (ARP) are recommended with LHM to reduce the post-operative reflux though the optimal anti-reflux procedure is still debatable. This study reports on the long-term outcomes of LHM with Angle-of-His accentuation (AOH) in patients of achalasia cardia.

Transmittance characteristics of transparent hydrophobic acrylic foldable intraocular lenses that were in vivo for a prolonged period of time: A UV visible spectrophotometric study.

Purpose: To record experimental data on the spectral transmittance characteristics of transparent hydrophobic acrylic foldable IOLs, which were in vivo for a prolonged period of time and explanted under clinical indications and also to compare the data with that of corresponding control and crystalline lens along with review of the relevant literature.

Method: Material and make of each of the explanted intraocular lenses (IOLs) as well as pre-explantation clinical status of the eyes were confirmed from the medical record. The transmittance of wavelength from 185 to 900 nm of each of the selected IOLs was measured using Shimadzu UV 2600 UV visible (UV-Vis) spectrophotometer in double-beam configuration and probe version 2.

Malignant choroidal melanoma with vitreous seeds: supported by histopathology and field emission scanning electron microscopy study.

To report an exceptionally rare case of malignant choroidal melanoma with vitreous seeding, supported by histopathological and field emission scanning electron microscopic (FESEM) studies. A 58-year-old male with painless diminution of vision in his left eye for past 1 month was found to have a brown retrolental mass lesion on slit lamp examination in the left eye. Detailed fundus examination revealed choroidal melanoma in the left eye with pigmented seeds extending into the vitreous cavity and associated exudative retinal detachment.

Methods: A 12-year retrospective analysis was performed and all patients diagnosed with ocular parasitic diseases were identified. Examination under a compound microscope, fluorescein staining, and scanning electron microscopy were done.

Histopathology of pigment dispersion syndrome and glaucoma: A Case Report.

Pigment dispersion syndrome (PDS) can have varied manifestations. Anterior and posterior segment involvement by dispersed pigments was documented in gross pathology and by staining under microscopy. Pigmentary changes in the sclera, cornea, anterior chamber, iris, trabecular meshwork, lens, and retinal pigment epithelium and optic nerve findings were consistent with PDS.

Use of Critical View of Safety and Proctored Preceptorship in Preventing Bile Duct Injury During Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy-Experience of 3726 Cases From a Tertiary Care Teaching Institute.

Introduction: Bile duct injury (BDI) continues to occur despite technological advances and improvements in surgical training over the past 2 decades. This study was conducted to audit our data on laparoscopic cholecystectomies performed over the past 2 decades to determine the role of Critical View of Safety (CVS) and proctored preceptorship in preventing BDI and postoperative complications.

Materials And Methods: All patients undergoing elective laparoscopic cholecystectomy were analyzed retrospectively.

Development and use of low-fidelity, low-cost, animal tissue-based simulators for surgical training during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Background The Covid-19 pandemic severely affected surgical training as the number of surgeries being done was reduced to a bare minimum. Teaching and training of clinical skills on a simulator are desirable as they may have an even larger role during the Covid-19 pandemic. Commercially available simulators with optimum fidelity are costly and may be difficult to sustain because of their recurring cost.

Intraocular and neuro-cysticercosis with diffuse stromal choroiditis.

Intraocular cysticercosis with central nervous system involvement is not that rare. We report a male child with a right-sided painful blind eye who had intraocular cysticercosis and granuloma in the left frontal lobe of the brain. There was an incidental finding of chronic inflammation in the choroid of that eye supported by histopathology.
