Chronic toxicity of styrene maleic anhydride, a male contraceptive, in rhesus monkeys (Macaca mulatta).

A newly developed male contraceptive, styrene maleic anhydride (SMA), was injected in the vas deferens of male rhesus monkeys for safety evaluation at the dose of 100 mg (contraceptive dose, CD), 250 mg (CD x 2.5) and 500 mg (CD x 5.0), and the monkeys were kept under observation for one year.

Pharmacokinetics of rifabutin.

We investigated the pharmacokinetics of rifabutin in 15 male patients as part of a phase I trial of the treatment of early symptomatic human immunodeficiency virus infection. Six or more patients were studied at each of four different oral dosage levels: 300, 600, 900, and 1,200 mg/day. Twelve studies were also conducted with tracer doses of intravenous radiolabeled [14C]rifabutin.

Effect of epinephrine and norepinephrine on immuno-reactive insulin secretion from isolated islets of Langerhans.

Earlier studies have demonstrated the inhibitory nature of epinephrine and norepinephrine on pancreatic insulin release. The present study reports their effect on beta-cell IRI release in an isolated islet system. Results show that epinephrine and norepinephrine inhibit islet-IRI release at the 100-10 microM level.

Pancreatic cystadenocarcinoma associated with strongyloides.

A 60-year-old woman presented with a mass in the left upper abdominal quadrant. Noninvasive studies showed a cystic structure arising from the pancreas. Pathologic studies of the tumor revealed pancreatic cystadenocarcinoma; the fluid contained Strongyloides larvae.
