Dengue fever is an acute febrile illness with a duration of 2-12 days. Our observational study observed the 24-h continuous tympanic temperature pattern of 15 patients with dengue fever and compared this with 26 others with fever due to a non-dengue aetiology. A tri-phasic fever pattern was seen among two-thirds of dengue fever patients, but in only one with an inflammatory disease.

In this letter, we derive a new super Gaussian Joint Maximum (SGJMAP) based single microphone speech enhancement gain function. The developed Speech Enhancement method is implemented on a smartphone, and this arrangement functions as an assistive device to hearing aids. We introduce a "" parameter in the derived gain function that allows the smartphone user to customize their listening preference, by controlling the amount of noise suppression and speech distortion in real-time based on their level of hearing comfort perceived in noisy real world acoustic environment.

An increased contribution of de novo lipogenesis (DNL) may play a role in cases of dyslipidemia and adipose accretion; this suggests that inhibition of fatty acid synthesis may affect clinical phenotypes. Since it is not clear whether modulation of one step in the lipogenic pathway is more important than another, the use of tracer methods can provide a deeper level of insight regarding the control of metabolic activity. Although [H]water is generally considered a reliable tracer for quantifying DNL in vivo (it yields a homogenous and quantifiable precursor labeling), the relatively long half-life of body water is thought to limit the ability of performing repeat studies in the same subjects; this can create a bottleneck in the development and evaluation of novel therapeutics for inhibiting DNL.

Background: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), associated with a state of low grade chronic inflammation, depends on multiple genetic and environmental factors. Elevated levels of inflammatory markers including intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1) have been demonstrated in affected women. Recent evidence indicates a significant linkage between chromosome 19p13 loci and multifactorial diseases that have an inflammatory component.

Background: Primary outcomes analysis of the Multicenter Study of MagLev Technology in Patients Undergoing MCS Therapy With HeartMate 3 (MOMENTUM 3) trial short-term cohort demonstrated a higher survival rate free of debilitating stroke and reoperation to replace/remove the device (primary end-point) in patients receiving the HeartMate 3 (HM3) compared with the HeartMate (HMII). In this study we sought to evaluate the individual and interactive effects of pre-specified patient subgroups (age, sex, race, therapeutic intent [bridge to transplant/bridge to candidacy/destination therapy] and severity of illness) on primary end-point outcomes in MOMENTUM 3 patients implanted with HM3 and HMII devices.

Methods: Cox proportional hazard models were used to analyze patients enrolled in the "as-treated cohort" (n = 289) of the MOMENTUM 3 trial to: (1) determine interaction of various subgroups on primary end-point outcomes; and (2) identify independent variables associated with primary end-point success.

In this paper, we present a Speech Enhancement (SE) method implemented on a smartphone, and this arrangement functions as an assistive device to hearing aids (HA). Many benchmark single channel SE algorithms implemented on HAs provide considerable improvement in speech quality, while speech intelligibility improvement still remains a prime challenge. The proposed SE method based on Log spectral amplitude estimator improves speech intelligibility in the noisy real world acoustic environment using the priori information of formant frequency locations.

Aspirin's potential as a drug continues to be evaluated for the prevention of colorectal cancer (CRC). Although multiple targets for aspirin and its metabolite, salicylic acid, have been identified, no unifying mechanism has been proposed to clearly explain its chemopreventive effects. Our goal here was to investigate the ability of salicylic acid metabolites, known to be generated through cytochrome P450 (CYP450) enzymes, and its derivatives as cyclin dependent kinase (CDK) inhibitors to gain new insights into aspirin's chemopreventive actions.

Introduction: Although the use of a stopwatch is recommended to record intravaginal ejaculatory latency time (IELT) for premature ejaculation, there is no Indian literature which assesses the reliability of this method among our patients. Hence, we assessed the accuracy of stopwatch-measured IELT and compared it with other methods such as number of thrusts and self-assessed IELT in an Indian context.

Methods: Between January 2015 and December 2015, couples with premature ejaculation (PE) confirmed with the Premature Ejaculation Diagnostic Tool were enrolled in this study.

Copper phosphate metalloligands [Cu(X-dipp)(Pyterpy)] [X = H (1), Br (2)], exemplifying expanded 4,4'-bipyridine type molecules, have been synthesized by reacting 4'-(4-pyridyl)-2,2':6',2''-terpyridine (Pyterpy) and para substituted 2,6-diisopropylphenyl phosphate (X-dippH) with copper acetate. The pendant N,N-ends of dimeric copper phosphates 1 and 2 have been forced to engage in further coordination by limiting the concentration of Pyterpy in the reaction mixture to yield rare Pyterpy bridged corner-shared polymeric copper phosphates [Cu(X-dippH)(X-dipp)(Pyterpy)(HO)] [X = Cl (3), Br (4), I (5)]. The formation of 1-5 is supported by spectroscopic and analytical data.

Spirocyclic lanthanide organophosphate polymers, {[Ln(dipp)(dippH)(CHOH)(HO)](CHOH)} [Ln = La (1), Ce (2), Pr (3), Nd (4), Sm (5), Eu (6), Gd (7), Tb (8), Dy (9), Ho (10), Er (11)], have been prepared from the reaction of Ln(NO)·xHO with sterically hindered 2,6-diisopropylphenyl phosphate (dippH) using aqueous NaOH as the base. The one-dimensional chainlike lanthanide (III) organophosphate coordination polymers have been characterized with the aid of analytical and spectroscopic methods. The single crystal structure determination of polymers (2-5 and 7-11) reveals that in these compounds the hydrophobic organic groups of the phosphate provide a protective coating for the inorganic lanthanide phosphate polymeric chain.

The pattern of strain accumulation and its release during earthquakes along the eastern Himalayan syntaxis is unclear due to its structural complexity and lack of primary surface signatures associated with large-to-great earthquakes. This led to a consensus that these earthquakes occurred on blind faults. Toward understanding this issue, palaeoseismic trenching was conducted across a ~3.
