Defect engineering through modification of their surface linkage is found to be an effective pathway to escalate the solar energy conversion efficiency of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs). Herein, defect engineering using controlled decarboxylation on the NH-UiO-66 surface and integration of ultrathin NiCo-LDH nanosheets synergizes the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) under a broad visible light regime. Diversified analytical methods including positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy were employed to investigate the role of Zr-rich defects by analyzing the annihilation characteristics of positrons in NH-UiO-66, which provides a deep insight into the effects of structural defects on the electronic properties.

Atomically dispersed metal-single-atoms have become a frontier in solid catalysis due to their characteristic electronic properties. However, for biomass conversion, employing metal-single-atoms as catalysts is rather challenging since they suffer from poor selectivity and yield due to inadequate metal-support interactions. We show here that Ru/triphenylphosphine (PPh)-based ordered mesoporous polymers afford high yields of reduced sugars, xylitol (yield ∼95%) and sorbitol (yield ∼65%) in a microwave reactor with formic acid as the only hydrogen donor.

Background: Knee stiffness after trauma, fracture fixation, arthroscopic surgery, infection, and knee arthroplasty is a known complication, which is challenging to manage and causes significant disability to the patients.

Methods: We did a comprehensive search on the stiff knees, in the last week of May 2020, from the search engines of PubMed, SCOPUS, Google Scholar, and Research Gates using the appropriate keywords.

Vaping has emerged as a popular alternative form of inhalation of nicotine and marihuana derivates (including Tetrahydrocannabinol, THC) in part due to the avoidance of combustion byproducts. Unfortunately, THC oil (especially that produced by unregulated individuals) may contain dilutants such as propylene glycol, vitamin E, and flavoring ingredients that can lead to adverse respiratory effects. Acute eosinophilic pneumonia (AEP) has been described in association with e-cigarette and vaping associated lung injury (EVALI) but the majority of bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) samples reported in the literature do not show eosinophils as the predominant cell lineage.

The objective of this study was to compare the History, Electrocardiogram, Age, Risk factors, and Troponin (HEART) score and clinical coronary artery disease (CAD) consortium (CADC) model for predicting obstructive CAD (≥50% stenosis on coronary computed tomographic angiography) and 30-day major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE, composite of acute myocardial infarction, revascularization, and mortality). We studied 1981 patients with no known CAD who presented with acute chest pain and had negative initial troponin and electrocardiogram. Chest pain was classified as typical, atypical, and nonanginal and used to score the history component of the modified HEART score.

This study analysed buffaloes from north-east India and compared their nuclear and mitochondrial DNA variations with buffaloes of mainland India, China, Mediterranean and South-East Asia. Microsatellite genotypes of 338 buffaloes including 210 from six north-east Indian buffalo populations and three mainland Indian breeds were analysed to evaluate their genetic structure and evolutionary relationships. Phylogenetic analysis and multidimensional scaling plot of pairwise FST revealed the clustering of all swamp-type buffaloes of north-east India with Lower Assamese (significantly hybrid type) buffaloes in one plane and all the mainland river buffaloes in another plane while the upper Assamese buffaloes being distinct from both these clusters.
