Introduction: Laparoscopic simple nephrectomy (LSNx) is among the gold standard options for management of selected poorly functioning and most non-functioning kidneys (PFK/NFKs). Our objective was to audit our patients who had undergone LSNx for benign causes and assess their perioperative outcomes and analyse the factors correlating with these outcomes.
Materials And Methods: We reviewed our prospectively collected data of patients with PFK/NFKs due to benign causes who underwent a LSNx on a three-dimensional (3D) system via a transperitoneal approach between January 2017 and June 2023.
In multiple sclerosis (MS) the circulating metabolome is dysregulated, with indole lactate (ILA) being one of the most significantly reduced metabolites. We demonstrate that oral supplementation of ILA impacts key MS disease processes in two preclinical models. ILA reduces neuroinflammation by dampening immune cell activation/ infiltration; and promotes remyelination and oligodendrocyte differentiation through the aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR).

Methods: Global metabolomics was performed in an observational cohort of people with MS, followed by pathway analysis to examine relationships between baseline metabolite levels and subsequent brain and retinal atrophy. A double-blind, placebo-controlled trial was completed in people with progressive MS (PMS), randomized to receive either TUDCA (2 g/day) or placebo for 16 weeks.

We explored the potential of carbon quantum dots (CQDs) as novel materials for wastewater treatment and their role towards environmental sustainability. The advantages of CQDs over other carbon-based materials, when synthesized using the same precursor material and for the same contaminant are discussed, enabling future researchers to choose the appropriate material. CQDs have demonstrated exceptional adaptability in various wastewater treatment, acting as efficient adsorbents for contaminants, exhibiting excellent photocatalytic properties for degradation of organic pollutants, and functioning as highly sensitive sensors for water quality monitoring.

We study transitions in intrinsically disordered regions (IDRs) upon complex formation, utilizing X-ray-solved structural dataset of protein-DNA and protein-RNA complexes, along with their available unbound protein forms. The identified IDRs are categorized into three classes: Disordered-to-Ordered (D-O), Disordered-to-Partial Ordered (D-PO) and Disordered-to-Disordered (D-D) after comparing them in unbound and complex forms. In the D-O class, IDRs form secondary structures like coils, helices, and strands upon binding to nucleic acids.
