Orai1 Boosts SK3 Channel Activation.

The interplay of SK3, a Ca sensitive K ion channel, with Orai1, a Ca ion channel, has been reported to increase cytosolic Ca levels, thereby triggering proliferation of breast and colon cancer cells, although a molecular mechanism has remained elusive to date. We show in the current study, via heterologous protein expression, that Orai1 can enhance SK3 K currents, in addition to constitutively bound calmodulin (CaM). At low cytosolic Ca levels that decrease SK3 K permeation, co-expressed Orai1 potentiates SK3 currents.

Sonocatalytic recovery of ceria from graphite and inhibition of graphite erosion by ionic liquid based platinum nanocatalyst.

Use of ultrasound as an intensified non-destructive decontamination technique for processing graphite limits its reusability beyond a few number of decontamination cycles due to the exfoliation of graphite due to cavitation effects. The current work establishes that the use of platinum nanoparticles in the leachant reduces the erosion of graphite substrate due to cavitation. It presents an improved way of sonochemical recovery of ceria using a mixture of nitric acid, formic acid and hydrazinium nitrate in the presence of platinum nanoparticles and ionic liquid.

Effect of co-flow on fluid dynamics of a cough jet with implications in spread of COVID-19.

We discuss the temporal evolution of a cough jet of an infected subject in the context of the spread of COVID-19. Computations were carried out using large eddy simulation, and, in particular, the effect of the co-flow (5% and 10% of maximum cough velocity) on the evolution of the jet was quantified. The Reynolds number (Re) of the cough jet, based on the mouth opening diameter () and the average cough velocity, is 13 002.

Colloidal Deposits via Capillary Bridge Evaporation and Particle Sorting Thereof.

Evaporating droplets of colloidal suspensions leave behind particle deposits which could be effectively controlled via manipulating the surrounding conditions and particles and liquid properties. While previous studies extensively focused on sessile and pendant droplets, the present work investigates the evaporation dynamics of capillary bridges of colloidal suspensions formed between two parallel plates. We vary the wettability of the plates and the particle size and composition of the colloidal suspensions, keeping the same spacing between the plates.

Drought stress-induced changes in redox metabolism of barley (Hordeum vulgare L.).

In the present investigation, influence of water stress on redox metabolism was evaluated in the flag leaf and grains of four barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) genotypes viz DWRB 101, 432 ICARDA, Jyoti and 430 ICARDA at 10th, 20th and 30th days after anthesis (DAA). Relative water content, electrolyte leakage, antioxidative enzymes and their related metabolites were studied during drought stress.

MedProDB: A database of Mediator proteins.

In the last three decades, the multi-subunit Mediator complex has emerged as the key component of transcriptional regulation of eukaryotic gene expression. Although there were initial hiccups, recent advancements in bioinformatics tools contributed significantly to prediction and characterization of Mediator subunits from several organisms belonging to different eukaryotic kingdoms. In this study, we have developed the first database of Mediator proteins named MedProDB with 33,971 Mediator protein entries.

Mainstreaming Local Food Species for Nutritional and Livelihood Security: Insights From Traditional Food Systems of Community of Arunachal Pradesh, India.

This study brings out the critical role of lesser-known local plant species in the food, nutrition and livelihood security of community in Arunachal Pradesh, India. Considering women as a major custodian in knowledge and practices on foods, a total of 90 women and 60 key knowledgeable community members (thus a total of 150 participants) were selected from East Siang and Upper Siang districts of Arunachal Pradesh. Data were collected using combination of methods including recipe contest, focus group discussion, personal interviews and laboratory analyses.

How coronavirus survives for hours in aerosols.

COVID (CoronaVirus Disease)-19, caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome-CoronaVirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) virus, predominantly transmits via airborne route, as highlighted by recent studies. Furthermore, recently published titer measurements of SARS-CoV-2 in aerosols have disclosed that the coronavirus can survive for hours. A consolidated knowledge on the physical mechanism and governing rules behind the significantly long survival of coronavirus in aerosols is lacking, which is the subject of the present investigation.

Dosing regimen optimisation for oseltamivir in immunocompromised paediatric patients with influenza: Extrapolation of efficacy.

Aims: To optimise the dosing regimen of oseltamivir for immunocompromised (IC) paediatric patients (<18 years) with influenza, we used an extrapolation approach alongside clinical data.

Methods: Efficacy was extrapolated from adult IC patients to paediatric IC patients by leveraging existing efficacy, safety, pharmacokinetic (PK)/pharmacodynamic (PD), and disease-progression models of oseltamivir and oseltamivir carboxylate (OC). Data of IC paediatric patients from two studies (NV25719 and NV20234) were included in the population PK (n = 30), PK/PD analysis (n = 22) and disease modelling approach (n = 36).

Time-restricted feeding (TRF) is a nutritional intervention wherein food intake is limited to a consistent 8- to 10-h daily window without changes in nutritional quality or quantity. TRF can prevent and treat diet-induced obesity (DIO) and associated metabolic disease in young male mice fed an obesogenic diet, the gold standard preclinical model for metabolic disease research. Because age and sex are key biological variables affecting metabolic disease pathophysiology and response to therapies, we assessed their impact on TRF benefits by subjecting young 3-month-old or middle-aged 12-month-old male and female mice to ad libitum or TRF of a Western diet.

This article discusses short term forecasting of the Novel Corona Virus (COVID -19) data for infected, recovered and active cases using the Machine learned hybrid Gaussian and ARIMA method for the spread in India. The Covid-19 data is obtained from the World meter and MOH (Ministry of Health, India). The data is analyzed for the period from January 30, 2020 (the first case reported) to October 15, 2020.

A Multidisciplinary Approach to Electrical Instability and Cardiogenic Shock in Acute Myocardial Infarction.

New cardiogenic shock classifications allow prompt recognition and management of complications of acute coronary syndrome. A 59-year-old man presented after a delayed left anterior descending coronary artery ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction in Society of Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions stage E cardiogenic shock and ventricular tachycardia storm. He underwent revascularization of the left anterior descending artery, percutaneous left ventricular assist device bridged to permanent assist device placement, epicardial and endocardial ventricular tachycardia ablation, and iatrogenic closure of an atrial septal defect.
