Background: Even with the Undetectable equals Untransmittable campaign (U=U) campaign, women living with HIV continue to experience intersecting forms of stigma. We explored how the somatic experiences of viewing a film about U=U and women could help individuals gain deeper understandings of HIV and alter learned prejudices.

Methods: HIV Made Me Fabulous is a film that utilises embodied storytelling to tell the story of a trans woman living through social and historical traumas of HIV.

For this qualitative study, participants from the United States were recruited through hospital listservs, websites, social media, and word of mouth to participate in a phone interview. Fourteen individuals living with a traumatic SCI and 18 caregivers of individuals living with a traumatic SCI were interviewed using a semi-structured interview guide.

Examination of Health Information Needs of Caregivers of and Individuals with Burn Injuries.

Burns are a leading cause of trauma worldwide with about 450,000 burn injuries being treated at medical facilities in the United States each year. Finding relevant information on the long-term consequences of burn injuries is a significant challenge for many individuals with burn injuries and their caregivers. This qualitative study aimed to identify how individuals with burn injuries and caregivers of individuals with burn injuries prefer to access and use health information, identify obstacles to accessing useful information, and identify information most needed by burn survivors and caregivers.

A simulation modelling toolkit for organising outpatient dialysis services during the COVID-19 pandemic.

This study presents two simulation modelling tools to support the organisation of networks of dialysis services during the COVID-19 pandemic. These tools were developed to support renal services in the South of England (the Wessex region caring for 650 dialysis patients), but are applicable elsewhere. A discrete-event simulation was used to model a worst case spread of COVID-19, to stress-test plans for dialysis provision throughout the COVID-19 outbreak.

Effects of Leaflet Design on Transvalvular Gradients of Bioprosthetic Heart Valves.

Bioprosthetic aortic valves (BAVs) are becoming the prostheses of choice in heart valve replacement. The objective of this paper is to assess the effects of leaflet geometry on the mechanics and hemodynamics of BAVs in a fluid structure interaction model. The curvature and angle of leaflets were varied in 10 case studies whereby the following design parameters were altered: a circular arch, a line, and a parabola for the radial curvature, and a circular arch, a spline, and a parabola for the circumferential curvature.

The objectives of this study are to determine the removal rates of orthognathic plates used during orthognathic surgery at James Cook University Hospital and describe the reasons for plate removal. 202 consecutive orthognathic cases were identified between July 2004 and July 2012. Demographics and procedure details were collected for these patients.

Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome: a case report of palpitations and dizziness following prophylactic mefloquine use.

Objective: The antimalarial agent mefloquine has been reported to cause a number of possible side effects. Here we describe a case demonstrating a previously unreported complication, the postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS).

Case History: A 44-year-old woman presented with symptoms of severe orthostatic intolerance (palpitations and dizziness) in combination with postural tachycardia (but no fall in blood pressure) following the use of mefloquine prophylaxis.

Irreversible sensorineural hearing loss: an unusual side effect of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.

Objective: Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are known to have a number of potential side effects. Here we report a case demonstrating an uncommon complication, irreversible sensorineural deafness.

Case History: A 41-year-old man with pre-existing cardiac and renal dysfunction (for which his regular medications included furosemide) presumed secondary to a viral myocarditis developed acute sensorineural hearing loss 5 days after commencing treatment with indomethacin 25 mg tds for acute gout.

Pulmonary fibrosis-an uncommon manifestation of anti-myeloperoxidase-positive systemic vasculitis?

Small vessel vasculitides such as microscopic polyangiitis and Wegener's granulomatosis commonly involve the kidney and lung, with alveolar haemorrhage being the commonest manifestation of pulmonary involvement. Here we describe a patient who developed acute renal failure and pulmonary haemorrhage with positive autoantibodies against myeloperoxidase 1 year after a diagnosis of usual interstitial pneumonia had been made and we discuss the uncommon association of pulmonary fibrosis and anti-myeloperoxidase positive vasculitis.

Intra-articular steroids in knee osteoarthritis: a comparative study of triamcinolone hexacetonide and methylprednisolone acetate.

The aim of this study was to compare the effectiveness of triamcinolone hexacetonide (THA) and methylprednisolone acetate (MPA), given via the intra-articular route at equipotent dosage to patients with symptomatic knee OA with effusion, in a double-blind randomized comparative trial. Consecutive hospital-referred patients who fulfilled the American College of Rheumatology criteria for knee OA (clinical and radiographic) were randomly allocated to receive either THA 20 mg (1 ml) or MPA 40 mg (1 ml). All patients had synovial fluid aspirated from their knee joint at the time of injection.
