Pachymeter Use and Disinfection Practice in the United Kingdom: A National Survey.

Objective: Pachymetry plays a crucial role in the diagnosis and management of glaucoma and corneal diseases. There have been several outbreaks of epidemic ocular infections in ophthalmology clinics worldwide with reports of viral, parasitic, and prion disease. Contact pachymetry is a possible vehicle of transmission due to its risk of contamination.

Trabeculectomy training in England: are we safe at training? Two year surgical outcomes.

Objectives: To define the safety profile of trainee trabeculectomy surgery in the United Kingdom. Surgical exposure for trainees in England is limited due to service requirements, the European working time directive constraints and increasing sub-specialisation of glaucoma surgery. Limited knowledge exists on the outcomes of supervised glaucoma surgery.

Disposable versus non-disposable tonometer prisms: a UK national survey.

Purpose: To determine the prevalence of disposable tonometer versus non-disposable tonometer use in the UK and to determine methods of decontamination and frequency of replacement of prisms.A total of 137 ophthalmology departments were interviewed by telephone using a structured questionnaire. The main outcome measured were:types of tonometer prisms used in clinic (disposable, non-disposable and/or other)average disposable prisms used per clinic sessionaverage lifespan of non-disposable prismsprism preference by glaucoma and other teams within department.

Views of glaucoma patients on provision of follow-up care; an assessment of patient preferences by conjoint analysis.

Aims: To determine patients' preferences for provision of glaucoma follow-up services examining preferences for location, access and personnel for delivery of this care.

Methods: 100 patient patients attending the glaucoma outpatient clinic for follow-up review underwent an interview-based assessment during which they completed the visual function questionnaire 25 and ranking of scenario options for provision of follow-up care for their glaucoma. Percentage preferences for aspects of care offered in the conjoint analysis scenario packages and generation of utility values for each of the factor levels included in the scenario design were calculated.

We report the first case of persistent endocapsular hematoma following uneventful phacoemulsification and intraocular lens surgery through a clear corneal incision.
