Technical Quality of Root Fillings Performed by Undergraduate Dental Students in Single-Canal Teeth: A 10-Year Retrospective Study.

Objective: This study assessed the radiographic technical quality of root fillings in single-canal teeth performed over a decade (June 2013 to June 2023) by undergraduate dental students of the Federal University of Campina Grande.

Change-inducing interventions in health education settings.

The article aims to analyze the participants' perception of the effect of interventions developed within a project nested in the Support Program for Institutional Development of the Unified Health System (PROADI-SUS). We adopted normative assessment from the perspective of a qualitative research approach. Twenty-one health professionals from five intervention projects representing the five Brazilian regions were involved in the research.

Reproductive control is one of the biggest challenges in tilapia production and triploidy was developed as an alternative to sterilization. In general, polyploids present chromosomal instability but for triploid Nile tilapia it has yet to be reported. This study evaluated the chromosomal instability from juveniles to adulthood, growth performance and gonadal status of tilapia hatched from eggs submitted or not to heat shock for triploid induction.

[Burning of sugarcane biomass and hospitalizations of children and older adults for respiratory problems in Pernambuco State, Brazil].

This study aimed to analyze the relationship between hospitalizations for respiratory problems and the regular burning of sugarcane in Pernambuco State, Brazil. This is an ecological time series study corresponding to the period from 2008 to 2018. The rates of hospitalizations for respiratory diseases in children aged under 5 years and in adults older than 60 years in sugarcane-producing and non-producing municipalities were compared using nonparametric Mann-Whitney statistical analysis.

Traffic Sign Recognition with Deep Learning: Vegetation Occlusion Detection in Brazilian Environments.

Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR) is one of the many utilities made possible by embedded systems with internet connections. Through the usage of vehicular cameras, it's possible to capture and classify traffic signs in real time with Artificial Intelligence (AI), more specifically, Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) based techniques. This article discusses the implementation of such TSR systems, and the building process of datasets for AI training.

Cadmium effects on the freshwater teleost Prochilodus lineatus: Accumulation and biochemical, genotoxic, and behavioural biomarkers.

In order to evaluate the effects of Cd, juveniles of the Neotropical fish Prochilodus lineatus were exposed to 1 and 10 μg L Cd, for 24 and 96 h. Fish exposed to Cd showed metal accumulation in the gills, kidney, and liver, an increase in DNA damage in erythrocytes, and an increase in lipid peroxidation (LPO) in the kidney. Cd exposure also caused a reduction in catalase activity, metallothionein induction, and LPO in the liver.

Prepregnancy Obesity and Breastfeeding in the First Month of Life: A Birth Cohort.

This study aimed to investigate the association between prepregnancy obesity and disruption of exclusive breastfeeding (EBF) within the first month of life. This was a prospective cohort study conducted among Brazilian mothers and their babies born between February and December 2017. Research was conducted in all maternity hospitals in Vitória da Conquista, Brazil.

Assessment of stress and associated factors in employees of a public higher education institution.

Introduction: Occupational stress is considered as the negative imbalance between work demands and resources, and it can generate consequences to an individual's health and interfere with his or her quality of life.

Objectives: To investigate stress and its associated factors among employees of a higher education institution through a cross-sectional study (at the baseline of a longitudinal study) including 176 individuals aged 18 years or older. Sociodemographic characteristics related to physical surroundings, lifestyle, working conditions, and health and illness were tested as explanatory variables.

Neuroticism, stress, and rumination in anxiety and depression of people with Vitiligo: An explanatory model.

Psychological impacts of Vitiligo have been demonstrated, and associations of the skin disease with anxiety and depression disorders have already been shown. However, it is still unclear the role of individuals' personality factors, such as neuroticism, stress, and rumination, as well as sociodemographic characteristics of people with Vitiligo in such disorders. We conducted a study in a community sample of individuals with Vitiligo (N = 324) aiming to test the hypothesis that neuroticism, stress, and rumination are subjacent to these individuals' anxiety and depression symptomatology.

[Introduction of ultra-processed foods and associated factors among children under six months of age in the Southwest of the state of Bahia, Brazil].

The scope of this study was to assess the prevalence and associated factors with the introduction of ultra-processed food (UPF) among children under six months of age living in the southwest of Bahia state. This is an excerpt from a prospective cohort study conducted with pairs of mothers/babies. The introduction of UPF was defined by the intake of at least one UPF before the age of six months.

Multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children: a case series.

Objective: To describe a case series of multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C) in a pediatric tertiary hospital.

Methods: Patients under the age of 18 years who met MIS-C criteria of the Brazilian Ministry of Health (MH) and/or the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (RCPCH) were included. A retrospective analysis was carried out by reviewing medical records and complementary exams.

Can Lemna minor mitigate the effects of cadmium and nickel exposure in a Neotropical fish?

We aimed to evaluate if Lemna minor can mitigate the observed effects of cadmium (Cd) and nickel (Ni) exposure in Prochilodus lineatus. Fish were exposed for 96 h to 20 µg L of Cd, 1.5 mg L of Ni, or to a mixture of these two metals.

This study aims to analyze the socio-environmental and health effects of sugarcane crops in a county in the Zona da Mata of the state of Pernambuco, Brazil. A collective mapping was carried out with use of social cartography. The issues investigated were plotted on maps, whose final versions were elaborated by means of the ArcGIS 10.

Protease Produced by Endophytic Fungi: A Systematic Review.

The purpose of this systematic review was to identify the available literature of production, purification, and characterization of proteases by endophytic fungi. There are few complete studies that entirely exhibit the production, characterization, and purification of proteases from endophytic fungi. This study followed the PRISMA, and the search was conducted on five databases: PubMed, PMC, Science Direct, Scopus Articles, and Web of Science up until 18 May 2021, with no time or language restrictions.

[Periodic occupational examination: an opportunity for diagnosis and monitoring of chronic noncommunicable diseases in men].

The study aimed to estimate the prevalence of arterial hypertension as the principal marker of chronic noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) and to identify associated modifiable factors in male workers. Baseline data were used from a longitudinal study with a sample of 1,024 male workers 18 years or older in a municipality in Northeast Brazil. The marker for NCDs was arterial hypertension, defined as systolic pressure ≥ 140mmHg and/or diastolic pressure ≥ 90mmHg and/or prior diagnosis of arterial hypertension and/or use of antihypertensive medication.

Perceived vulnerability to disease: adaptation and validation of the PVD-br.

Perceived vulnerability to disease is characterized by the extent to which individuals perceive themselves to be susceptible to contracting infectious diseases, as well as by the emotional discomfort that results from assessing the risk of getting contaminated by pathogens. The PVD self-report scale, which measures this construct, is widely used internationally. However, it has not yet been adapted for Brazil.

Acute Exposure to Biogenic Nanosilver Produced from Fusarium oxysporum in a Neotropical Fish.

Biogenic nanosilver (bNAg) has emerged as a potentially less toxic alternative to synthetic nanosilver. However, no studies have evaluated its effects on a fish species from the Neotropical region. Thus, our aim was to evaluate the effects of a bNAg on the Neotropical fish Prochilodus lineatus.

Quality of Actions to Control Cervical Cancer in Bahia, Brazil.

Methods: This is a cross-sectional study conducted from January to March 2019 in 19 municipalities in Bahia, Brazil, with a sample of 241 doctors and nurses from primary health care (PHC).
