Air pollution (AP) significantly jeopardises health, with the Royal College of Physicians accepting the adverse effects of AP are not being sufficiently communicated to patients by healthcare professionals (HCP). To explore HCPs' understanding and attitudes toward AP and its health impacts, we conducted a service evaluation survey in a group of hospital doctors. A questionnaire comprising 20 questions about AP and its health associations was completed by 133 hospital doctors working at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust, UK.

Growth environment greatly alters many facets of pathogen physiology, including pathogenesis and antimicrobial tolerance. The importance of host-mimicking environments for attaining an accurate picture of pathogen behaviour is widely recognised. Whilst this recognition has translated into the extensive development of artificial cystic fibrosis (CF) sputum medium, attempts to mimic the growth environment in other respiratory disease states have been completely neglected.

The disclosure decision-making model (DD-MM) has been heavily explored within its initially proposed scope. Fewer known studies have tested the DD-MM's boundaries by assessing the model's application beyond close personal relationships, and none have explored it in a context outside of long-term health conditions. The current study investigates the disclosure decision-making process of patients to their healthcare providers when they experience situational confusion.

Background: Pregnant women have historically been excluded from most medical research, including human challenge studies. The proof-of-concept Lactamica 9 human challenge study investigated whether nasal inoculation of pregnant women with commensal bacteria leads to horizontal transmission to the neonate. Given the unique practical and ethical considerations of both human challenge studies and interventional research involving pregnant women and their newborns, we sought to investigate the motivations, concerns and experiences of these volunteers.

The disclosure decision-making model (DD-MM) explains an individual's decision-making process regarding whether they disclose personal health information to others and consists of three tenets (i.e., assessment of information, assessment of receiver, and disclosure efficacy).

This in-depth critical review investigates the impact of COVID-19 on personal relationships from the start of the pandemic in early 2020 to September 2021. Research examining six themes are identified and described in detail: the impact of COVID-19 on (1) family and intimate relationships; (2) LGBTQ+ relationships; (3) how COVID-19 is linked to technologically mediated communication and personal relationships; (4) potential shifts in sexual behaviors and desire; (5) potential shifts in relational conflict and intimate partner violence; and (6) constructive aspects of personal relationships, which is a broad theme that includes outcomes such as resilience, relational quality, coping, and social support. Findings for overarching patterns are offered to highlight implications for current research and identify future directions to consider when continuing to study personal relationships during the COVID-19 pandemic and similar future crises.

Background: The doctors of the future need to be empowered to deliver healthcare sustainably while protecting their patients' health in the context of a degrading environment. This study aimed to objectively review the extent and nature of the teaching of planetary health and sustainability topics in UK medical education.

Methods: A multi-centre national review of the timetabled teaching sessions in medical courses in the UK during the academic year 2020/2021 against the General Medical Council's adopted 'Educating for Sustainable Healthcare - Priority Learning Outcomes'.

Background: People who inject drugs (PWID) may be at elevated risk of adverse outcomes from SARS-CoV-2 infection; however, data on COVID-19 vaccine uptake among PWID are scarce. This study aimed to determine COVID-19 vaccine uptake among PWID, identify factors associated with sub-optimal uptake, and compare uptake to the general population.

Methods: The Australian Needle Syringe Program Survey is an annual sentinel surveillance project, comprising a self-completed questionnaire and provision of a dried blood sample for HIV and HCV testing.

Chronic illness care demands attention to the unique needs of family caregivers who support care at home, yet few tools exist for family caregiver assessment in the social domain of practice. The Family Caregiver Communication Tool (FCCT) assesses caregiver communication as part of the family system and was originally developed for cancer caregivers. The aim of this study was to develop and psychometrically-validate a version of the FCCT for Chronic Illness (FCCT-CI).

Introduction: Sleep disorders are common in the military, and there is a gross shortage of sleep specialists in the military health system. The purposes of the present study were to (1) understand perceptions and expectations surrounding sleep telehealth approaches and (2) solicit feedback to optimize and refine a proposed novel sleep telehealth management platform. To accomplish these objectives, we investigated the perceptions, expectations, and preferences of active duty service members (ADSMs) with sleep disorders, primary care managers (PCMs), and administrative stakeholders regarding sleep telehealth management.

Post-traumatic osseous cysts are an uncommon complication of pediatric appendicular trauma which develop in the first few weeks following the injury. Due to their infrequent occurrence, their appearance may be mistaken for other, more sinister entities. We present a case of a post-traumatic osseous cyst in a 6-year old child with radiographic and magnetic resonance imaging findings which we hope will reassure clinicians as to their benign nature and prevent over-investigation.

The present study investigated responses to imagined same-sex infidelity committed by a partner in a heterosexual relationship. The motivational theory of infidelity and research on communicative infidelity were used as guiding frameworks for exploring differences in perceptions of blame and intentionality as a result of varying motivations for engaging in same-sex infidelity (i.e.

Background: Objectively structured clinical examinations (OSCEs) are a stressful experience for many health care students and professionals in training. Mock OSCEs have been shown to be beneficial for student OSCE preparation. However, due to their expense and administrative burden students may only get a few opportunities to partake in these.

A new force-based canonical approach for the accurate generation of multidimensional potential energy surfaces is demonstrated. Canonical transformations previously developed for diatomic molecules are used to construct accurate approximations to the 3-dimensional potential energy surface of the water molecule from judiciously chosen (adopting the right coordinate system) 1-dimensional planar slices that are shown to have the same canonical shape as the classical Lennard-Jones potential curve. Spline interpolation is then used to piece together the 1-dimensional canonical potential curves, to obtain the full 3-dimensional potential energy surface of a water molecule with a relative error less than 0.
