In 41 women the 17 beta-estradiol-receptors were determined in the cytosol fraction. The highest concentrations were found in cases of glandular-cystic hyperplasia, were as in the cyclic endometrium the highest concentrations were recognized before the date of ovulation at a rate of 189,8 +/- 80 fmol/mg protein. --During the treatment with contraceptive drugs only a small content of receptors was observed in midcycle.

By taking 91 samples of tissue the contents of PGE2 and PGF2 alpha in the cyclic endometrium was detected. Until the beginning of the menstruation a continuous rise of both substances could be observed. Especially during the latter half of the cycle the concentration of PGF2 alpha increased fundamentally causing a shifting within the relationship of both primary prostaglandins in favour of PGF2 alpha at the end of the cycle.

PGE2 and PGF2 alpha were isolated from the decidua of an early pregnancy, following medical termination. The biosynthetic capacity for 6-keto-F1 alpha was tested by incubation, using 3H-labelled arachidonic acid. Prostaglandin concentrations in the decidua differed strongly from steroid hormones in plasma.

The corpus luteum of the mid-luteal phase was examined concerning of the signs of functional and morphological regression after treatment with Prostin F2alpha and 15(S)-15-methyl-PGF2alpha. By 8 patients who were operated upon out of various uterine indications steroid hormone levels were determined during the treatment with prostaglandins and corpus luteum was judged by electron-microscopy. Morphological changes in the temporary decrease of the progesteron concentration could be found.
