Intensity and type of physical activity predicts depression in older adults.

Unlabelled: This study examined whether various levels of physical activity among older adults predicted levels of depression and whether there were racial differences in the levels and types of physical activities engaged in by adults aged 50 and older.

Method: Data from the 2015-2016 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) were analyzed for 2,474 adults aged 50 years and older. Variables of focus were demographics, physical activity and depression, assessed using the Physical Activity Questionnaire and the Mental Health - Depression Screener.

Using precision medicine to individualize healthcare.

The Precision Medicine Initiative (PMI) is a government initiative to encourage individualized care. This article provides a snapshot of precision medicine and its implications for patients and study participants, as well as the PMI and the role of nurses as educated patient advocates.

Cognitive Apprenticeship During Preceptorship.

This study investigated whether implementation of an instructional strategy during hospital orientation preceptorship of newly graduated nurses would impact their confidence and ease of transition. Findings revealed an increase in confidence of newly graduated nurses after implementation of cognitive apprenticeship principles. The findings suggest that it can be beneficial to teaching cognitive apprenticeship principles to preceptors for use during preceptorship.
