Objective: To evaluate generic self-management modules (SelMa) as an adjunct to disease-specific educational programs during inpatient medical rehabilitation.
Methods: A bi-center cluster-randomized controlled trial with 698 patients with coronary artery disease, metabolic syndrome, or inflammatory bowel disease was conducted. We compared two versions of SelMa, a group with 3 h or a lecture with 1 h, respectively, in addition to disease-related patient education, to usual care (only disease-related education).
Purpose: Patients with brain tumors have a high symptom burden and multiple supportive needs. Needs of caregivers are often unattended. This study aims to determine screening-based symptom burden and supportive needs of patients and caregivers with regard to the use of specialized palliative care (SPC).

Methods: A multicentre cluster randomized controlled trial of 475 patients was conducted. In the intervention condition, patients received the new self-management educational group program whereas in the control condition, patients received a short lecture-based educational program (usual care).
The fear-avoidance (FA) model has gained widespread acceptance as a conceptual framework for investigating psychological factors such as FA beliefs and avoidance behavior, which contribute to chronic back pain and reduced functioning. Depressive symptoms are supposed to be related to FA beliefs and to foster avoidance behavior. This study aims to investigate the multivariate assumptions of the FA model with a focus on the role of depressive symptoms.
