Viral encephalitis initiates a series of immunological events in the brain that can lead to brain damage and death. Astrocytes express IFN-β in response to neurotropic infection, whereas activated microglia produce proinflammatory cytokines and accumulate at sites of infection. The vector-borne flaviviruses (VBFVs) are well known for causing great misery and death in humans worldwide. The VBFVs include those transmitted by mosquitos, such as Zika virus (ZIKV), dengue virus; and those transmitted by ticks including the tick-borne flavivirus serocomplex and Powassan virus (POWV). The alarming reduction in drug effectiveness against bacterial infections has created an urgent need for the development of new antibacterial agents that circumvent bacterial resistance mechanisms. SARS-CoV-2 infection in immunocompromised individuals is associated with prolonged virus shedding and evolution of viral variants. Rapamycin and its analogs (rapalogs, including everolimus, temsirolimus, and ridaforolimus) are FDA-approved as mTOR inhibitors for the treatment of human diseases, including cancer and autoimmunity. To determine the safety and efficacy of flexible ureteroscopy in the treatment of transplant urolithiasis. We reviewed a single-center series of 2652 patients who underwent surgical treatment for nephrolithiasis at our institution from 2009 to the present day to identify all patients undergoing ureteroscopy for treatment of transplant lithiasis. We identified 18 patients who underwent ureteroscopy for treatment of urolithiasis within the transplanted kidney or ureter.

The design and performance of an electrochemical cell and solution flow system optimized for the collection of X-ray absorption spectra from solutions of species sensitive to photodamage is described. A combination of 3D CAD and 3D printing techniques facilitates highly optimized design with low unit cost and short production time. Precise control of the solution flow is critical to both minimizing the volume of solution needed and minimizing the photodamage that occurs during data acquisition.

Our objective was to analyze and compare the associations between potential risk factors for nephrolithiasis and repeat stone surgery in male and female patients. We retrospectively analyzed 1970 patients who had stone surgery at our institution in the period from January 2009 to May 2017, were older than 18 years and had at least 12 months of postoperative follow-up. Our definition of surgical recurrence included repeat surgery on the same renal unit or on the opposite renal unit if the original imaging did not demonstrate significant stones on that side.
