Introduction: The incidence of adhesive capsulitis (AC) is higher in patients with diabetes mellitus. While AC is usually treated non-operatively, diabetic patients are more likely to require more extensive treatments such as manipulation under anesthesia (MUA) or arthroscopic capsular release. Despite the recent surge in popularity of GLP-1 agonists ("GLP-1s") for the treatment of type 2 diabetes (T2DM), there is a lack of literature describing the effect of GLP-1 use on the incidence and management of AC in patients with T2DM.

Background: Rotator cuff repair (RCR) is a frequently performed outpatient orthopaedic surgery, with substantial financial implications for health-care systems. Time-driven activity-based costing (TDABC) is a method for nuanced cost analysis and is a valuable tool for strategic health-care decision-making. The aim of this study was to apply the TDABC methodology to RCR procedures to identify specific avenues to optimize cost-efficiency within the health-care system in 2 critical areas: (1) the reduction of variability in the episode duration, and (2) the standardization of suture anchor acquisition costs.

Eukaryotic plasma membranes exhibit nanoscale lateral lipid heterogeneity, a feature that is thought to be central to their function. Studying these heterogeneities is challenging since few biophysical methods are capable of detecting domains at submicron length scales. We recently showed that cryogenic electron microscopy (cryo-EM) can directly image nanoscale liquid-liquid phase separation in extruded liposomes due to its ability to resolve the intrinsic thickness and electron density differences of ordered and disordered phases.

We report a charge balance strategy for reactive oxygen species (ROS)-triggered activation of liposome cell delivery by unmasking cationic membranes. Zeta potential experiments, microplate-based vesicle interaction assays, and cellular delivery studies confirmed that modification of anionic lipid 1 by ROS led to the uncaging of cationic liposomes, thereby driving cellular association.

Objectives: Players in the National Basketball Association (NBA) are at high risk for ACL tears which are detrimental to their career due to the months of rehabilitation. The authors hypothesize that after anterior crucial ligament (ACL) injury, older players will be less likely to return to the NBA, players that do return will have a lower performance efficiency rating (PER), and the decrease in PER will be associated with a lower salary.

Methods: This case-control study utilized the publicly available database maintained by the NBA, professional basketball players from 2002 to 2022 who suffered an ACL tear were identified.

The complexity of patient care demands that health care teams collaborate effectively. This means that when pastoral care staff engage with patients, they need to communicate their findings to other members of the multidisciplinary team to maximize patient benefits. In 2016, an Australian hospital found that pastoral care staff were able to visit only 30% of admitted patients, and that documentation of pastoral care visits was minimal.

Introduction: Evidence highlights the importance of social isolation as a critical yet underserved treatment target for individuals managing psychosis. Schizotypal traits represent a useful model of psychosis, facilitating the assessment of contributors to social isolation without the confounds associated with schizophrenia. This study utilised structural equation modelling to examine the unique predictive capacity of schizotypal traits for subjective and objective indices of social isolation.

Background: Environmental exposures to chemical toxicants during gestation and infancy can dysregulate multiple developmental processes, causing lifelong effects. There is compelling evidence of PFAS-associated immunotoxicity in adults and children. However, the effect of developmental PFAS exposure on infant T-cell immunity is unreported, and, if present, could be implicated in immune-related health outcomes.

Background: Racial disparities in orthopedic surgery outcomes have been extensively documented, highlighting systemic biases in care. Proximal humerus fractures (PHFs), about 6% of all fractures, are rising, especially among the elderly. Despite the prevalence of PHFs, a research gap exists regarding racial disparities in postoperative complications and outcomes.

Objectives: Previous studies have shown that nurses' spiritual care competence is related to characteristics of personal spirituality, training adequacy, and comfort, confidence, and frequency of provision of spiritual care. However, these studies assumed that all participants understood spiritual care in the same way, and used self-ratings of spiritual care competence, which are problematic. Our previous study found that spiritual care was understood in 4 qualitatively different ways that can be arranged in order of competence.

Introduction: Total shoulder arthroplasty (TSA) and reverse TSA (rTSA) are successful treatments for end-stage shoulder arthritis. However, it is unknown whether prior arthroscopy is associated with an increased risk for revision surgery. This study investigates if undergoing a shoulder arthroscopy in the year prior to primary arthroplasty increases risk of revision surgery within 2 years.
