Background And Objective: To report on the use of intravitreal steroids in the management of acute zonal occult outer retinopathy (AZOOR), a rare disorder affecting the outer retina.
Patients And Methods: Retrospective case series of nine eyes of five patients with AZOOR who received intravitreal triamcinolone acetonide (IVTA), dexamethasone intravitreal implant, and/or fluocinolone acetonide implant. Treatment response was determined by reported symptoms and multimodal imaging findings.
Introduction: It is important for graduate-level nursing students to be competent in the issues involved in the social determinants of health and health disparities and have the tools to address them as graduates.
Method: As part of a nursing workforce diversity program, master's-level nursing students were required to participate in a service learning project exposing them to an issue not directly linked to health-long bus rides for students as a result of school consolidations-to achieve educational goals and objectives while providing a service to an advocacy agency.
Results: Eighteen students completed the project, providing the advocacy agency with firsthand accounts about the impact of long bus rides and in-depth reviews of literature on the topic and laws and regulations of other states.
Background: The clinical phenotype of patients presenting with autosomal recessive CDHR1-related retinopathy has not been well described.
Materials And Methods: This is a retrospective case series of patients presenting to a single institution. Clinical data, including age, visual acuity, dilated fundus exam, fundus photos, fundus autofluorescence (FAF), optical coherence tomography, full-field electroretinograms (ERGs), and results of genetic testing, were collected.

We report a case of a choroidal neovascular membrane (CNVM) associated with sclerochoroidal calcification (SCC). An asymptomatic, 72-year-old male was referred to our institution for yellow-white placoid retinal lesions of both eyes. B-scan ultrasonography confirmed the diagnosis of SCC, and indocyanine green angiography confirmed the presence of an associated CNVM.

The purpose of this review was to shed light on this conflict. We conducted a qualitative review in January 2016 to examine sources of variation in sex/gender differences for smoking cessation.

For individuals taking one or more psychotropic medications, cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), the gold standard in insomnia treatment, is a particularly favorable option (vis-à-vis pharmacotherapy). However, CBT-I can be inaccessible for persons with low socioeconomic status, a group that includes many with psychiatric diagnoses.

In the on-going quest to harvest near-infrared (NIR) photons for energy conversion applications, a novel family of neutral ruthenium(ii) sensitizers has been developed by cyclometalation of an azadipyrromethene chromophore. These rare examples of neutral ruthenium complexes based on polypyridine ligands exhibit an impressive panchromaticity achieved by the cyclometalation strategy, with strong light absorption in the 600-800 nm range that tails beyond 1100 nm in the terpyridine-based adducts. Evaluation of the potential for Dye-Sensitized Solar Cells (DSSC) and Organic Photovoltaic (OPV) applications is made through rationalization of the structure-property relationship by spectroscopic, electrochemical, X-ray structural and computational modelization investigations.

The insertion of a fused indole moiety into the dipyrromethene core and various substituents on the proximal aryl including fused aromatic groups, lead to pronounced changes in the properties of compounds . By taking advantage of this versatile synthetic platform that allows facile substituent modifications and extension of the π-conjugated system, significant bathochromic shifts in the absorption (λmax = 511-597 nm) and emission (601-757 nm) bands are achieved.

Method: 57 cocaine dependent participants were randomized to receive modafinil 400mg or placebo daily during a period of inpatient treatment followed by six weeks of outpatient treatment. Participants underwent polysomnographic sleep recording during inpatient treatment prior to and after starting modafinil.
Importance: Stargardt disease (STGD1) is characterized by macular atrophy and flecks in the retinal pigment epithelium. The causative ABCA4 gene encodes a protein localizing to photoreceptor outer segments. The pathologic steps by which ABCA4 mutations lead to clinically detectable retinal pigment epithelium changes remain unclear.

Both complexes display a distorted octahedral geometry, with a fac-Re(CO)3 arrangement and one azadipyrromethene (ADPM) chelating ligand in the equatorial position.

Their high absorbance (ε up to 100,000 M(-1) cm(-1)) in the yellow-to-red region and the strong NIR luminescence encountered in boron-chelated aza-BODIPY analogues are especially interesting in the context of light-harvesting and life science applications. In the present study, we endeavoured to compare symmetric and asymmetric tetradentate ADPM derivatives 1-6 versus two related bidentate ADPM references in order to gain insights into their structure-property relationship.

Background: Language use is often disrupted in patients with schizophrenia; novel computational approaches may provide new insights.

Modafinil, a wake-promoting agent used to treat sleep disorders, is thought to enhance cognition. Although modafinil has shown promise as a pharmacotherapy for the treatment of cocaine dependence, it is unknown to what extent cognitive effects may play a role in such treatment. We examined the effect of modafinil on the Balloon Analogue Risk Task (BART), a behavioral measure in which higher scores are purported to reflect a greater propensity for risk-taking.
