Article Synopsis
  • Sinonasal intestinal-type adenocarcinomas (ITACs) are aggressive cancers similar to colorectal adenocarcinomas, and their prognostic factors are poorly understood, particularly regarding the MET signaling pathway.
  • In a study of 72 ITAC cases, it was found that 64% had elevated MET protein levels, while 52% exhibited chromosome 7 polysomy, indicating potential alterations in MET signaling.
  • The presence of certain histological features and incomplete tumor resection correlated with worse patient outcomes, pointing to the significance of MET in the development of ITACs.

Sinonasal intestinal-type adenocarcinomas (ITACs) are uncommon tumors of poor prognosis defined by their similarities to colorectal adenocarcinomas. The involvement of the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) pathway in colorectal adenocarcinoma oncogenesis is well established, and the same is expected to apply to ITACs. In a series of 39 ITACs, we investigated EGFR amplification and chromosome 7 polysomy by fluorescence in situ hybridization; EGFR, KRAS, and BRAF mutational status by polymerase chain reaction sequencing; EGFR variant messenger RNA expression by quantitative reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction; and EGFR protein expression by immunohistochemistry with antibodies targeting the extracellular domain, the intracellular domain, and the phosphorylated isoform.

The aim of a nasal septum surgery is functional and aesthetic aims. With a semiologic study the authors analyse four kinds of septoplasties which allows to correct the main septal deviations: erndoscopic septoplasty for posterior nasal obstruction, Cottle's septoplasty for septum's luxation and deviation on the premaxilla area, septoplasty with spreader grafts for dorsum cartilage deviations, extracorporeal septoplasty with a new septum cartilage frame for the complex deviations. The authors emphasize on the help given by videoendoscopy during the surgical procedures.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study aimed to create and assess a new rat model for head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) using imaging and pathological methods to better mimic human cancer conditions.
  • - Researchers used Sprague Dawley rats and performed allografts with fresh tumor specimens, achieving an 80% success rate in tumor growth and notable increases in tumor volume over 30 days.
  • - The developed model showed comparable characteristics to human HNSCC in terms of tumor pathology and imaging, making it suitable for future therapeutic testing in immunocompetent settings.
