In recent decades, immunometabolism in cancers has emerged as an interesting target for treatment development. Indeed, the tumor microenvironment (TME) unique characteristics such as hypoxia and limitation of nutrients availability lead to a switch in metabolic pathways in both tumor and TME cells in order to support their adaptation and grow. Glioblastoma (GBM), the most frequent and aggressive primary brain tumor in adults, has been extensively studied in multiple aspects regarding its immune population, but research focused on immunometabolism remains limited.

Background: After failure of first-line chemotherapy, standard of care for advanced urothelial cancer (aUC) is immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) targeting PD-1/PD-L1 pathway. Several prognostic models (Bajorin and Bellmunt scores) have been evaluated, but only in the context of chemotherapy.

We present a novel activity-based detection strategy for matrix metalloproteinase 2 (MMP2), a critical cancer protease biomarker, leveraging a mechanism responsive to the proteolytic activity of MMP2 and its integration with CRISPR-Cas12a-assisted signal amplification. We designed a chemical translator comprising two functional units─a peptide and a peptide nucleic acid (PNA), fused together. The peptide presents the substrate of MMP2, while the PNA serves as a nucleic acid output for subsequent processing.

Following a mass-casualty nuclear/radiological event, there will be an important need for rapid and accurate estimation of absorbed dose for biological triage. The cytokinesis-block micronucleus (CBMN) assay is an established and validated cytogenetic biomarker used to assess DNA damage in irradiated peripheral blood lymphocytes. Here, we describe an intercomparison experiment between two biodosimetry laboratories, located at Columbia University (CU) and Health Canada (HC) that performed different variants of the human blood CBMN assay to reconstruct dose in human blood, with CU performing the assay on isolated lymphocytes and using semi-automated scoring whereas HC used the more conventional whole blood assay.

Human exposure to low-to-moderate dose ionizing radiation (LMD-IR) is increasing via environmental, medical, occupational sources. Acute exposure to LMD-IR can cause subclinical damage to cells, resulting in altered gene expression and cellular function within the human brain. It has been difficult to identify diagnostic and predictive biomarkers of exposure using traditional research models due to factors including lack of 3D structure in monolayer cell cultures, limited ability of animal models to accurately predict human responses, and technical limitations of studying functional human brain tissue.

Introduction: Treatment-related toxicity following either chemo- or radiotherapy can create significant clinical challenges for HNSCC cancer patients, particularly those with HPV-associated oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma. Traditional techniques for food analysis are based on off-line laboratory methods that are expensive and time-consuming and often require qualified personnel. Despite the high standards of accuracy and metrological traceability, these well-established methods do not facilitate real-time process monitoring and timely on-site decision-making as required for food safety and quality control. In fish, the gut microbiome plays a crucial role in homeostasis and health and is affected by several organic and inorganic environmental contaminants. Amphidromous fish are sentinel species, particularly exposed to these stressors. We used whole metagenome sequencing to characterize the gut microbiome of wild European eels (Anguilla anguilla) at a juvenile stage captured from three sites with contrasted pollution levels in term of heavy metals and persistent organic pollutants.
