Chronic kidney disease is placing a strain on dialysis services, with unclear global prevalence data; this study aims to assess the epidemiological profile of patients undergoing renal replacement therapy in Paraíba from 2009 to 2013.
The research, based on a large dataset, identifies trends such as a higher prevalence of dialysis requests among males and whites and highlights that many patients rely on hemodialysis without the ideal vascular access.
It also shows rising treatment costs, indicating that renal replacement therapy expenses increased from 2.89% to 3.32% of state health spending during the observation period.
