Here, we explore the advantages of incorporating T-cell response assessment to enhance the definition of immune memory profile.

Quantitative analysis of Tc-pertechnetate thyroid uptake with a large-field CZT gamma camera: feasibility and comparison between SPECT/CT and planar acquisitions.

Purpose: The main objective of this study was to evaluate the ability of a large field Cadmium Zinc Telluride (CZT) camera to estimate thyroid uptake (TU) on single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) images with and without attenuation correction (Tomo-AC and Tomo-NoAC) compared with Planar acquisition in a series of 23 consecutive patients. The secondary objective was to determine radiation doses for the tracer administration and for the additional Computed Tomography (CT) scan.

Methods: Cross-calibration factors were determined using a thyroid phantom, for Planar, Tomo-AC and Tomo-NoAC images.

In sepsis, personalized immunotherapy is being evaluated as a means of restoring immune function in the most severely affected patients. Biomarkers play a crucial role in this process, as there are no clear clinical indicators of immune dysfunction. Functional testing is considered a gold standard for assessing immune function, but this approach faces analytical challenges in terms of clinical implementation.

Whatever the cause and possibility of emergency management, the site (hand or wrist) and anatomical location (articular or diaphyseal) guide the choice of surgical technique and timing. Functional sequelae do not vary, and the ultimate objective is not so much to fill a defect but to give a useful and accepted finger, hand or wrist.

Clinical effectiveness of hypertonic sodium lactate infusion for intraoperative brain relaxation in patients undergoing scheduled craniotomy for supratentorial brain tumor resection: A study protocol of a single center double-blind randomized controlled phase II pilot trial.

Introduction: Hyperosmolar solutions are prescribed in neurosurgery patients to provide satisfactory intraoperative brain relaxation and to lower cerebral injuries related to surgical retractors. Mannitol is traditionally considered as the first-choice solution for brain relaxation in neurosurgery patients. Hypertonic sodium lactate infusion was reported to provide a higher and longer osmotic effect compared to mannitol in severely brain-injured patients and to prevent impaired cerebral energetics related to brain injuries.

Impact of SARS-CoV-2 RBD Mutations on the Production of a Recombinant RBD Fusion Protein in Mammalian Cells.

SARS-CoV-2 receptor-binding domain (RBD) is a major target for the development of diagnostics, vaccines and therapeutics directed against COVID-19. Important efforts have been dedicated to the rapid and efficient production of recombinant RBD proteins for clinical and diagnostic applications. One of the main challenges is the ongoing emergence of SARS-CoV-2 variants that carry mutations within the RBD, resulting in the constant need to design and optimise the production of new recombinant protein variants.

Chest CT-scan (CT) exceeds chest X-ray (CXR) to diagnose community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) but actual use and results remain unclear. We examine whether CT performed at ED visit improved ED diagnosis of CAP as compared to a final diagnosis of CAP at hospital discharge (gold standard diagnosis for the study), and how it impacts relevant clinical outcomes. This retrospective monocenter observational study was based on the analysis of the hospital database.

Microvascular injuries, secondary edema, and inconsistencies in lung vascularization between affected and nonaffected pulmonary segments of non-critically ill hospitalized COVID-19 patients presenting with clinical deterioration.

Purpose: We aimed to better understand the pathophysiology of SARS-CoV-2 pneumonia in non-critically ill hospitalized patients secondarily presenting with clinical deterioration and increase in oxygen requirement without any identified worsening factors.

Methods: We consecutively enrolled patients without clinical or biological evidence for superinfection, without left ventricular dysfunction and for whom a pulmonary embolism was discarded by computed tomography (CT) pulmonary angiography. We investigated lung ventilation and perfusion (LVP) by LVP scintigraphy, and, 24 h later, left and right ventricular function by Tc-99m-labeled albumin-gated blood-pool scintigraphy with late (60 mn) tomographic albumin images on the lungs to evaluate lung albumin retention that could indicate microvascular injuries with secondary edema.

Specific detection of memory T-cells in COVID-19 patients using standardized whole-blood Interferon gammarelease assay.

Antigen-specific T-cells are essential for protective immunity against SARS-CoV-2. We set up a semi-automated whole-blood Interferon-gamma release assay (WB IGRA) to monitor the T-cell response after stimulation with SARS-CoV-2 peptide pools. We report that the WB IGRA is complementary to serological assays to assess SARS-CoV-2 immunity.

An Intravenous 100-mL Lipid Emulsion Infusion Dramatically Improves Myocardial Glucose Metabolism Extinction in Cardiac FDG PET Clinical Practice.

Purpose: Physiological myocardial accumulation of FDG impairs the diagnosis of inflammatory/infectious or tumoral myocardial detection by FDG PET/CT. We prospectively evaluated the addition, 3 hours before imaging, of an intravenous 100-mL lipid emulsion infusion (Intralipid) to a high-fat, low-carbohydrate diet (HFLCD) for at least 2 meals followed by a fast of at least 6 to 12 hours in patients referred for the diagnosis of myocardial inflammation, endocarditis, cardiac or paracardiac masses, intracardiac device, or prosthetic valve infections.

Methods: Data of 58 patients consecutively included (28 Intralipid patients, 30 controls with HFLCD alone) were compared.

CRISPR-Cas9 has proven to be highly valuable for genome editing in plants, including the model plant Physcomitrium patens. However, the fact that most of the editing events produced using the native Cas9 nuclease correspond to small insertions and deletions is a limitation. CRISPR-Cas9 base editors enable targeted mutation of single nucleotides in eukaryotic genomes and therefore overcome this limitation.

The COVID-19 pandemic, caused by the new severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), continues to spread worldwide. Serological testing for SARS-CoV-2-specific antibodies plays an important role in understanding and controlling the pandemic, notably through epidemiological surveillance. Well-validated and highly specific SARS-CoV-2 serological assays are urgently needed.

Prospective evaluation of early functional recovery of displaced fractures of the middle third of the clavicle whether operated or not.

Introduction: Several studies have analyzed the functional recovery after plate fixation of a displaced fracture of the middle third of the clavicle beyond the 6th week. The aim of this study was to assess the early functional recovery in the first 6 weeks, which has not yet been investigated.

Hypothesis: Functional recovery in the first 6 weeks after surgical treatment is better than in the first 6 weeks of functional (non-operative) treatment.

Impact of two-level filtering on emergency medical communication center triage during the COVID-19 pandemic: an uncontrolled before-after study.

Background: Rapid access to emergency medical communication centers (EMCCs) is pivotal to address potentially life-threatening conditions. Maintaining public access to EMCCs without delay is crucial in case of disease outbreak despite the significant increased activity and the difficulties to mobilize extra staff resources. The aim of our study was to assess the impact of two-level filtering on EMCC performance during the COVID-19 outbreak.

COVID-19 pneumonia: relationship between inflammation assessed by whole-body FDG PET/CT and short-term clinical outcome.

Purpose: [18F]-2-Fluoro-2-deoxy-D-glucose PET/CT (FDG PET/CT) is a sensitive and quantitative technic for detecting inflammatory process. Glucose uptake is correlated with an increased anaerobic glycolysis seen in activated inflammatory cells such as monocytes, lymphocytes, and granulocytes. The aim of the study was to assess the inflammatory status at the presumed peak of the inflammatory phase in non-critically ill patients requiring admission for COVID-19.

Analysis of Au-Pd driving forces via the effective site energy model: LRO, antisites and enthalpy of permutation.

Recently we have developed a new energetic model based on the determination of the energies on each site of random solid solutions after relaxation as a function of both the local composition and the nominal concentration. It allows to determine the main thermodynamics driving forces of disordered alloys. Here, we extend the effective site energy model to ordered alloys and illustrate the results for the AuPdsystem.
